Chapter 4 - this can’t be true

Jasmin POV

After the night out with everyone I was so happy I could stay In bed. Well that’s what I thought anyway, when I’m woken up suddenly by my dad knocking on my bedroom door “Jasmine you need to wake up, there is more beta training to be done”

I couldn’t believe it, my only day off from training my dad was making me for extra. I rolled out and shouted to him, to give me 20 minutes to shower and throw some clothes on. I took a quick shower and threw on some skinny jeans and a plain T-shirt, with a pair of trainers. When I got out the kitchen my dad was sat at the counter while my mum was baking, the smell of freshly baked cookies is a smell I could get use to every day.

“Dad why do I have beta training on my only day off”

“Well kiddo when you become beta you really don’t have a day off, the pack is a 24/7 job and with you being the first female beta of sapphire pack, all eyes will be on you”

“Arghh okay, I guess your right. What you got planned”

“We are going to visit some of the families in the pack, see how they doing, if they need anything or have any ideas for the pack”

“That doesn’t sound too bad”

My mum let out a laugh, I give her a look. “Mum why you laughing”

“Haha honey, you think it’s not bad until you hear the ideas some of the pack come up with”

“Really dad”

“Yeah, I won’t give anything away as you need to know how to react and handle yourself around pack members”

After eating some of my mums freshly baked cookies we headed out, we didn’t need the car as the pack all lived within the borders in chalet type houses and there was a large complex for any single wolves that didn’t want to live with there parents or had no one else.

We got to the first house, it belonged to a family of 4, both parents where well know warriors and the dad was one of the chief border patrol officers. They had two children, both male aged 16 and 17, the oldest was close to getting his wolf. They started off telling us about school, you have to be in education until you turn the age of 18. The youngest boy asked for a support group for young pups who are scared or worried about getting there wolf and their first shift. I thought this was great idea and so did my dad. I don’t know why my mum said the ideas were going to be bad until we got to the 20th house, it’s been hours but I had to do this when the family asked for a taxi service within the pack so they didn’t have to walk. Everything was within a 10 minute walk at most and they are wolves! I just had to write it down and say we will see what could do. As we was leaving my dad said that I handled it well and the next stop was the complex building, but this meeting will be held more like a conference in the common room so that we wasn’t knocking on over a 100 doors. I can feel the headache all ready.

When we arrived, the room was packed probably around 200 pack members. When I seen the small stage with two seats I knew all eyes were gonna be on me. My dad made the introduction and before we now everyone was shouting, I had to show my dad and everyone here I was going to be a great beta.

“Everyone, let’s all calm down. You will all have your chance to speak your opinions and share ideas”

With that everyone went quiet.

“We start with the first chair to our left and following in order.”

My dad gave me a nod to say I did good, we started off with small things like more car park spaces, vending machines in the common room, this was stuff we could probably do. But then we had people asking for Starbucks to be built, outdoor pools. Like come on we have the biggest outdoor pool nature can give, the lake we share with crescent moon pack.

It was another 2 hours before we actually finished, I couldn’t wait to jump into bed but first I needed food and it was dinner time. When I got to dining all it was pretty empty which I liked, there was chicken , rice and veggies available. I grabbed a bottle of water and headed to our usual table, it felt weird sitting alone so I decided to check in with Ebony.

“Hey ebony, how are you feeling”

“I’m okay, I’m itching for a run after today”

“Okay let me eat and then we can go for a run, wanna go alone”

“No I want to run with Thor”

“Err okay I’ll mindlink Damien”

*mindlink*

“Hey Damien, wanna go for run? Ebony is itching to get out”

“Hey jazzy, yeah Thor would love that”

*end of mindlink*

Ebony was running circles in my head really excited, she’s never been this excited to run with Thor before. Is she not telling me something. Before I knew it Damien was walking out the lift, he looked like he just rolled out of bed.

“Hey”

“Hey jazzy, ready?”

“Yeah let’s go”

We got to the forest, even tho he’s seen my n***d body the other morning I still went behind a tree to shift. She was eager to get to Thor. When we come out from behind the tree, Damien had shifted to Thor. He was such a beautiful wolf and Ebony knew that. They started nuzzling into each other I didn’t wanna see any of this as I thought it was weird, I gave her full control. They was running for what felt like hours, chasing each other and play fighting.

Once I knew Ebony was getting restless I took back control and shifts back, throwing on the clothes I left behind the tree. I waited for Damien to be decent before I come out.

“Hey jazzy you can come out not, nothing you haven’t seen before haha”

“Shut up Damien” he was laughing at me.

We took a slow walk back to the pack house.

“Wanna watch a film”

“Sure, but I get to pick this time. You get the snacks and I’ll go pick the film”

“Deal, nothing girly”

“Damn I was thinking of maybe clueless”

He gave me a dirty look before running off to get the snacks. I go up to the cinema room and pick an comedy film, deadpool. As I was getting comfy on the big couch/bed we have in the cinema room, Damien runs in and jumps on me making me jump. Wasn’t going to let him get away with it so I used our warrior training to get from underneath him, this took him by surprise and ended up on top of him, straddling him. It was about 5 minutes before I realised what I was doing and quickly moved to watch the film, neither of us said anything to each other for most of the film. Damien broke the silence “jazzy”

“Yeah”

“Can I ask you something”

“Sure”

I turn to look at him. He has a concerned look on his face.

“Have you been feeling differently around me lately”

How did he know? Was he feeling the same?

“Err you could say that, but I thought it was just me”

“No I’ve been feeling it too, I spoke to my mum”

“What!!” Why did he speak to Luna Charlotte?

“You rather my dad?”

“I guess”

“She said it could be the start of the mate pull”

“Mates? That can’t be true, we can’t be”

“What why?l”

“Damien, we are best friends. I’m going to be beta and your second in command. I’m not fit to be luna. You deserve a Luna who is more caring and loving. That not me”

Before he could reply I ran out the cinema room and straight up to the beta floor. I didn’t even acknowledge my parents and went straight to my room, my head was spinning. We can’t be mates, we can’t. I decided I was going to take a long shower and get in bed. So much was going on in my head I just sat on the floor under the running water until my skin started to wrinkle. Damien tried to mindlink me but I put a block up I couldn’t talk to him, not right now.

Damien POV

After the conversation with Jasmine, I didn’t expect it to go the way it did. How did she not think she was caring? She’s probably one of the most caring people I know. She just ran off before I could tell her that. I tried mind linking her numerous times but she put a block up. I just wanted to talk to her. She could be my mate and I’ve potentially ruined it.

I couldn’t sleep so I decided to go the gym to blow off some steam and tire myself out. Thor is crying in my head he’s as upset as me right now. He really wants Jasmine and ebony to be our mate.

After 2 hours in the gym, I headed up to bed. It wasn’t long til I fell asleep.

*5:30am Alarm*

Training wasn’t for me this morning, I’m so tired. Thor was pacing hoping he would see Jasmine. I got ready and headed downstairs, when I got out the lift, the group was there but not Jasmine. I tried to mindlink her but she still had the block up. I decided to ask Tal.

“Hey tal, where is Jasmine”

“Hey, she said she is going to meet us over there. Something to do with helping her dad”

“Oh okay, thanks”

Is she helping her dad or avoiding me?

Jasmine POV

When I woke up to my alarm, I knew I couldn’t face Damien this morning so I told tal I would meet them at the centre as I needed to help my dad. Which is mostly true, he wanted me to lead training today as part of my beta training but I still could have met them before. When we got to the centre, my dad was running through what I’ll be doing. Everyone started to pile in.

Damien and the rest of the group was last to arrive.

“Damien Black, just cause you are going to be alpha doesn’t mean you can show up last” my dad loved calling out Damien. It made me laugh. Damien looked straight at me, i gave him a nod and looked away.

“Right kiddo your time to shine”

Here goes nothing, hope I can do this.

“Good morning everyone, today I will be running our training sessions. I have decided I’m going to pair you with someone who is at the same rank this way no one will be able to use there rank as a power move. When I call your names get into your pairs and find a spot on the Mat.

“Damien Black” “Luca Smyth” you will be our first pair. I could see the disappointment in Damien’s face he usually pairs up with me. I kept pairing everyone up. Once it was done I explained the manoeuvres and techniques we will be going over today. I walked round with my dad following behind, so I could give feedback. I felt on top of the world and understood why my dad loved training.

After 2 hours of training, I told everyone it was time for our run. I wasn’t going to miss out on this so I joined them. I set off with the first group still avoiding Damien. When I got back got to pack house before they had got back, I quickly went to the dining hall to grab take out breakfast and go to my room. As I was about to walk out, Damien walked in. He ran and blocked my way out.

“Hey jazzy why you avoiding me?”

“I’m not”

“You are, is this over last night”

“Damien not everything is about you” i managed to get past him. But it was about him, I don’t know what to say to him. This is a lot to take in. I needed space. I knew he would try mind linking me so I kept the block up. I got to my room and ate my breakfast before getting the shower. I decided I couldn’t hide away in my room all day, so I got dressed in a oversized hoody and leggings with my trainers. Grabbed my keys and purse, I was gonna go shopping to distract myself. I tried to sneak out with out anyone seeing me.

“Someone is being sneaky”

I turn round . “Oh hey Jasper”

“Where you off to”

“Having a self care day, needed some me time”

“Oh okay, everyone’s been wondering where you are”

“Just needed some space”

Before he could reply I left out the front door and jumped in my car. I got the shopping centre and spent hours shopping, I put my phone on silent as Damien kept blowing it up. I got in the car and didn’t realise I was hungry, I went through the drive through and ate the food in the car park. Yes I’m delaying going back the pack house. If I wait a little longer everyone will be busy in the dining hall eating and they won’t see me. I decide to read all the texts that Damien had sent me ‘please talk to me’ ‘we need to talk’ ‘please jazzy’. I will talk to him just not yet. What if I’m his mate all my beta training is for nothing.

I drove home and snuck in unnoticed by anyone. I walked into the living room, alpha mason was sat on the couch like he was waiting for me.

“Ah Jasmine just the personal”

“Yes alpha”

“I tried to mindlink you but you had a block up”

“Sorry alpha, I needed to clear my head today”

“No need to apologise, I wanted to talk to you”

Oh no he knows about me and Damien.

“Shall we go into the beta office as this is very confidential”

I followed him in but stayed silent.

“It’s after our meeting at crescent moon pack. After you pointing out about the female pack members, I decided to bring this up to board of elders to start investigation. Turns out you was right, Alpha Jackson and his beta are bad news, they have been using there power to take advantage of all the she wolves”

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

“What that is horrible”

“Yes it is, but the elders are going to continue the investigation and once they have enough witnesses and evidence, there is a possibility the pack will need a new leader and they’ve suggested we as sapphire pack extend to over the lake.”

“Wow that would increase our pack by at least 200 and our pack would alot stronger”

“Yes but the female wolves will be alot harder to win over after what they’ve experienced”

“Yes alpha”

“I want you to be in charge of helping these she wolves if we are to take over”

“Wouldn’t that be the future Lunas job”

“Yes but Damien has not found his mate.. yet” when he said that he gave me a suspicious look. He definitely knows!

“Yes alpha I will take leadership of this until Damien finds his Luna and fated mate”

I didn’t want to let on to anything, so I played it off but I know he didn’t believe it but took my word and left.

I took all my shopping which I left In the front room to my bedroom, put it all on my couch to sort tomorrow. I just wanted to get into bed and hide. I decided to watch some tv before going to sleep. After two films I decided it was best to go to sleep ready for training tomorrow. Didn’t take long for me to fall asleep.
