Chapter 5 - responsibilities

Jasmine POV

Waking up to my alarm today isn’t something I wanted to hear. I wish I could hide away for just at least one more day. I get a shower and throw on a gym set I got yesterday, it’s grey and black marble pattern. I threw on my trainers and grabbed my gym bag. As I went to the lift Ebony was alert, what’s going on? Then as the door opened Damien was there. Well this gonna be awkward, I step into the lift trying to avoid eye contact.

“Morning jazzy”

“Hey”

“Erm how are you”

“I’m okay, little tired. You?” Why is he making small talk? It’s never been this awkward.

“I’m okay, haven’t been sleeping. Can we talk? I miss you jazzy”

“Why haven’t you been sleeping? Can we talk after training please?”

“Just my head has been a mess since we last spoke”

Is he trying to blame me for his sleep deprivation? That’s not fair.

“Yes that’s fine please don’t run off”

The lift gets to the ground floor, thank god. Everyone was waiting for us, I went straight to Tal and gave her a hug. Didn’t really wanna wait around so I just headed to the training centre. They followed behind.

My dad started the training it was about working in a team, coordinating together, communicating. This was a big training day. We did this for a couple of hours, then did our run. I was looking forward to breakfast but not the conversation with Damien.

Damien POV

I just wanted training to be over so I could talk to Jasmine, Thor has been driving me mad and so has my own thoughts. After the run we headed to breakfast, I waited til after to talk to her. When we was sat I could not help myself but watch her, interacting with everyone, laughing and her smile, oh her smile is unreal. My birthday is only a couple of weeks away, I want it to hurry up so I can find out if she is my mate. Only downside is she won’t know til her birthday a month later. I’m snapped out of my thoughts.

“Damien” it’s Jasmine.

“Yeah what’s up”

“I’m gonna go for a shower quickly, then we can talk”

“Yeah that’s fine” she walks off. This was noticed by Luca.

“Dude, what’s going on?”

“Nothing, just we need to have a conversation”

He didn’t really know what to say but gave me a suspicious look.

I decided I would run upstairs for a quick shower aswell, after I got out the shower I was surprised to get a mind link from Jasmine.

*mind link*

“Damien, where you wanna talk”

“Erm wanna go for a drive up to our favourite lookout spot”

“Yes that’s works, I’ll drive” this girl loves to drive her car.

“Okay meet you at your car”

I quickly get dressed and head down. When I get outside she’s already at her car.

“Hey jazzy”

“Hey, you ready?”

“Yeah”

When we got in the car, she set off driving straight away. We was driving for about 30 minutes before we got to our spot, she parked up. I didn’t know if she was gonna start or me.

“So..” I guess it’s going to be her.

“I just wanna say, I reacted the wrong way. Everything that you said just shocked me and made my mind go like 100 mph.”

“See I didn’t want that. I just wanted to see if you was feeling the same way, I don’t want us to be any different”

“But we are going to be”

“No, after my mum told me about the mate pull, I needed to see if you felt anything. If we are mates is that a bad thing?”

“I don’t know, all my beta training would be for nothing”

Is that was she’s worried about, her being beta.

“That’s not it at all, you would be Luna. That’s more than beta”

“That’s the thing would I just be for show or would it be like we are equal?”

“Equal, 100 percent. I know you didn’t like what you seen at crescent moon. But our pack isn’t like that, I’m not like that”

She was quiet for a minute.. what was she thinking.

“Right okay, if we are mates we can figure it out but for now can we please leave it til we both turn 19. I will continue my beta training and we try to carry on as normal”

“I can do that”

“Right you wanna get food and go back the pack. You can keep me company while I sort out my shopping”

“What? More shopping? Didn’t you go shopping last week?”

“Yes I did, I don’t care, it’s my way of therapy”

This girl can really shop, she’s gonna hard to buy for if she keeps going shopping.

We headed back, we was talking like nothing had happened, we didn’t end up getting food as it was nearly lunch time. So we got a ice cream to tie us over.

Jasmines POV

After that conversation, I was happy we could get on the same page about everything and it felt like we was back to normal. When I parked up, Damien come up to my room to keep me company as I still have to put all my shopping away.

“Jesus jazzy, you really did shop”

“Haha do you expect anything less from me”

“No not really”

As I was putting it all away, I pulled out all the new underwear I bought without thinking. Damien’s face was a picture. I quickly put them away, while blushing really bad.

“Er let’s not talk about that”

“Lacy type of girl, noted”

“Oh shut up” he gave me a flirty grin, this made me blush even more. This isn’t good.

*3 WEEKS LATER*

Jasmines POV

My days are packed full with training both warrior and beta, helping with preparations for Damien’s Alpha ceremony/birthday party.

Things have got bit more flirty between me and Damien, I try my best not to but for some reason I cant help it and ebony doesn’t help she loves it specially when she’s in control.

Im sitting eating lunch with Tal, the boys are off doing whatever boys do. I wanted to spend time with tal alone as I’ve been so busy I’ve hardly had the chance too.

“Hey Jaz, can I ask you something”

“Yeah of course anything”

“Is there something going on with you and Damien”

Why she asking this, has she heard our conversations or seen us innocently flirting..I can’t tell her not yet.

“Other than us being Bestfriends and me being his beta, nothing”

“Oh, just cause I’ve noticed youse have been more flirty and closer”

“No that’s just innocent banter”

“If you say so” she went quiet after this. I couldn’t sit in silence so I decided to head up to my dads office to help out. I said goodbye to Tal.

When I got to dads office, he was on the phone. So I just sat on the couch to wait for him. He looked like he was getting stressed out. Was about another 5 minutes before he ended the call.

“Hey kiddo”

“Hey dad, just come up to see if I could help with anything”

“There actually is, you know what’s going on with crescent moon pack. Well the elders have decided to remove Alpha Jackson and his beta. They are being held in cells, at the moment. They have asked us to go speak to the pack about them joining our pack. The she wolves might appreciate seeing a female. Will you come, as Luna Charlotte is busy with preparations for the ceremony as it will be an amazing training opportunity for you”

“Of course dad, let’s brain storm what we want to say and sort a date with alpha Mason”

“That’s my girl”

I spent a few hours with my dad sorting everything we can out to potentially having over 200 wolves join us. The she wolves might need a bit more convincing but I will try my best.

After helping my dad and getting a start on the documents and stuff for the pack take over, I decided I would go the gym and then swim a couple of laps before dinner. I ran upstairs and throw on some gym gear, I chose a dark maroon set with my white trainers. I threw my hair in a ponytail, I grabbed a my gym bag and some swimming stuff. I downed a pre work out before heading down to the gym. Lucky enough the gym in the pack house was only used by ranked members, everyone else had access to the gym in the training centre , so it was empty at this time. Started off with some weights and then did some cardio. I was deep into my work out with my music blasting in my headphones, I was in my element. After about an 2 hours in the gym I decided that was enough so headed to the pool, I got changed into my black two piece. Connecting my phone to the bluetooth speaker so I could continue listening to my music while doing laps. It was my 10th lap in and I didn’t notice anyone walk in. When I got to the bottom of the pool, I stopped for a breather and that’s when I noticed my audience. Damien and Luca was sat at the side of the pool watching me.

“Hey jazzy, looking good” I shot Luca a dirty look. By the look on Damien’s face he didn’t like the comment either.

“Hey guys how long have you been sat there for?”

Damien was first to answer “not long, tried to mind link you but you have a block up. One of the warriors on shift said they seen you come this way”

“Oh. What’s up?” I’m curious why he tried to mindlink me.

“Oh we just heard about the other pack stuff and wanted to see if you was okay” both Damien and Luca were looking at me with some concern.

“Don’t be worrying your little brains, I’m fine. I’m happy to be helping out. Giving the she wolves someone they can trust”

“That’s very beta of you”Luca said with amusement

“Well I’m sorry for taking my role serious”

Damien couldn’t help but laugh at Lucas reaction to my comment.

“Jazzy why don’t you finish up your session and meet us for dinner”

“Yeah sounds good I’ll do a few more laps and then I’ll go up and get changed”

With that I carried on with my swimming and the boys left. I got another 10 laps in before I decided that to call it and head up to my floor.

I quickly jumped in the shower, after I threw on hoody and leggings with my crocs. Definitely going for comfort over style. I headed down to the dining hall to meet Damien and Luca. When I got down to the dining hall, they were sat down at our usually table with some other pack members, noticed one she Wolf sitting very close to Damien. He didn’t seem to mind, but Ebony did. She was at a stance letting out a low growl.

“Ebony calm down”

“That she Wolf shouldn’t be there”

“There isn’t any rules on who can be there”

She huffed at me and put her block up. I decided I would talk to her later.

I grabbed a plate and stacked it up with food. On my way to the table I grabbed a bottle of water, when I got there they were all deep into conversation that they didn’t notice me sitting down. There was the usual Damien Luca and Jasper, wherever Jasper was desperate she wolves followed which explained the she Wolf all over Damien. I just started eating before anyone noticed me, unfortunately it was that she Wolf next to Damien first. I think her name was Jessica, low ranking warrior. Probably trying to get up on the ranking scale.

“Hey Jasmine, that’s a lot of food you have there”

Is she serious?

“Hi Jessica, yeah well as wolves we eat a lot of food to keep up our strength”

She sniggers “I don’t eat that much”

“Well that would explain why you are a low rank warrior then wouldn’t it” the look on her face was a picture.

Luca couldn’t help but laugh. This just gave her enough ammo to clap back at me.

“Who do you think you are talking to”

Now this was funny, I noticed Damien about to say something but I stopped him through mindlink.

“Well Jessica I know you attend training everyday and have had the proper education you should know who I am… I am your future beta” letting my beta aura roll off a little bit. “So before you start disrespecting me I would think because I can take away any ranking you have”

Everyone was staring now, she didn’t like that. She tried be the victim and get Damien to stick up for her “Damien can you tell her, she was really rude to me”

This made me laugh, Ebony was back at a stance waiting to see what Damien would say.

“Well Jessica I don’t think she was rude, she standing her ground as you was the one that was rude to her. I think it’s best you find another table” with this she stood up stomping her feet like a toddler and storming off.

Ebony was happy he stuck up for her , even though I can handle myself perfectly fine.

Luca was the first to say anything “yo jazzy you was bad a*s then” I couldn’t help but laugh.

“Well Luca when people try to disrespect me it’s quite hard not to. Specially when it’s desperate she wolves that Jasper brings around”

“Hey, they aren’t all that bad” Jasper was acting shocked by my comment.

“Jasper it’s been two she wolves you’ve t brought around that have tried to disrespect me in the space of like 2 months”

He was lost for words, which made me just shake my head at him. I carried on eating my food, while interacting in conversation that was going on. I realised Damien hadn’t said much. He was just listening to the conversations around him, observing everyone. I would catch him staring at me now and then but didn’t let on to that I have noticed. So I just mind linked him..

“Like what you see”

He didn’t expect that, caught him off guard that he choked on his food he was eating. Couldn’t help but laugh. Everyone was looking at him.. “I’m okay just went down the wrong way” everyone went back to eating. He mind linked me back.

“I mean I’m not complaining, even if you are wearing crocs”

“There is nothing wrong with crocs, they are comfy”

“If you say so jazzy”

“I do and you need to cut down on the staring at me, Tal was asking questions the other day about us”

“What she say”

“Asking if there anything going on as we seem more flirty and closer”

“And you said..”

“I said that it was just best friend banter and that we are getting closer cause of the beta and alpha training we have been doing”

“Oh” he seems disappointed in this and he showed it on his face.

“Hey remember what we agreed normal until we have both turned 19”

“I know but..”

“But nothing so change the look on your face before anyone sees. We will talk to tal if we are fated mates but for now we leave it”

He didn’t reply after that just went back to eating and observing the pack. I finished up my food and took my dishes to the kitchen. Then followed the boys up to the alpha bar. I don’t really drink but I’ll have one now and then.

I went behind the bar to make the drinks, i quite enjoy it. I made Damien’s drink first, Wolf whiskey on the rocks with a hint of orange zest, Lucas drink rum and coke and then Jaspers drink also a rum and coke. I just had a vodka redbull.

I stayed behind the bar while the boys sat on the stools, i was just scrolling on my phone when I was snapped out of my little bubble by Jasper asking for another drink.

“Jazzy could I get another one”

“Please won’t go a miss”

He started batting his eyelashes “pleaseee jazzy”

I grabbed his glass and made him another but not with reminding him we have training in the morning. He just laughed and carried on drinking. The conversation was about Damien’s alpha ceremony and birthday. Jasper was exciting for all the un mated she wolves, I feel sorry for his fated mate if he’s like this around her, specially if she finds out about him sleeping around. Most wolves wait til they find there fated mates to have s*x but you also get the ones that once they hit puberty they are constantly sleeping around, like Jasper. He’s not 19 til a couple of months after me and Damien so he’s got a little longer. I know Luca slept with a few girls but they were all human as he didn’t want any she wolves to get attached or think that he will choose them as a chosen mate. I’m not sure about Damien I know he was in a relationship with Tal for a while but she would of told me if they had slept together. I didn’t realise I was staring into space when Luca threw a straw at me to get my attention.

“We are talking to you”

“Sorry was in my own world”

“We was asking if your excited for the big event next week”

“Yeah I can’t wait, I heard the food is going to be amazing. Oh of course Damien’s birthday too haha”

“Oh thanks jazzy you care more about food than me”

“Yeah you could say that”

“I’m wounded, you break my heart” he pretends to collapse

“Your such a weirdo, god help your mate”

“My mate will be the luckiest person alive”

“If you say so sunshine” you could tell these boys had a few, they were being proper wind ups.

Jasper was the next to try “jazzy you could be Damien’s mate”

I couldn’t help it but my face dropped and I ended up knocking over my drink.

“Wow jazzy I was only joking”

I had to play it off cool “ I know Jasper, I just went light headed think I didn’t realise how much vodka I put in”

“Right okay”

Damien was looking at me with concern.

“Don’t worry I think I’m gonna call it a night you boys have fun but remember we have training in the morning”

“Goodnight” they all said in unison

“Don’t you want to be my mate” this was drunk Damien wanting answers

“I never said that, we agreed to wait and not dwell on it as it might not be the case”

“Oh okay, I want you to be my mate”

“Damien you are drunk, we will talk about this when you turn 19”

“Okay”

“Goodnight”

I was already on my floor by the time the conversation had ended. I threw on some shorts and oversized tee on to sleep in. As soon as i got in bed my body thanked me and so did my wolf, I was asleep in seconds. Wolf strength alcohol can do that.
