MARIAN FITZWATER IS the daughter of a knight named Walter Fitzwater, the bastard brother to the previous king. She grows up in Nottingham castle. One day Marian is playing in Sherwood Forest when she happens upon a ten-year-old boy practicing his archery skills. “Boy, what is your name?”
“I thought I was alone! I am Robin, Robin of Locksley,”
“My name is Marian. Marian Fitzwater. Teach me to shoot a bow, Robin.”
Robin spends weeks with her teaching her how to shoot like an expert. One day they go to the beach. While wading neck-deep Marian is caught in the riptide. She thrashes. “Help! The sea is swallowing me,”
Robin catches her hands pulling her out. Robin puts his hands on Marian's cheeks. Her body is quavering.
