I look at myself in the mirror one last time before I go, with a smile on my face the whole time. It’s been two weeks since I’ve been here and even though I haven’t yet accomplished what I came here for and do not know when I will, but I must say I feel light… and would almost be happy if there wasn’t this guilt at the back of my mind.
Vance has shown me many great spots in this place and he’s been a wonderful host. For the first time, I feel... alive, but the feeling is so foreign to me that I feel like I’m betraying everyone. I feel like I’m letting them down, like I’m being selfish. All my life, I’ve carried the burden of my people.
