The car ride back to her apartment was silent, but the tension from dinner still lingered in the air. Sophia sat beside Alexander, acutely aware of his presence. His cologne—dark and intoxicating—filled the enclosed space, making it harder to focus.
He hadn’t touched her. Hadn’t said anything inappropriate. And yet, the intensity in his gaze was more dangerous than any words he could have spoken.
The driver pulled up in front of her modest Brooklyn apartment. Sophia reached for the door handle, but Alexander’s voice stopped her.
“Wait.”
She turned to face him, pulse quickening. “Yes?”
His piercing blue eyes locked onto hers. “Be ready by seven tomorrow morning.”
Sophia frowned. “For what?”
Alexander smirked. “I have a business trip in Chicago. You’re coming with me.”
Her stomach dropped. “I—”
“I don’t like repeating myself, Sophia.” His voice was calm, but there was an unmistakable authority behind it.
She exhaled slowly. A trip. With him. Alone.
She didn’t have a choice.
“Understood, Mr. Knight.”
For a moment, Alexander simply watched her, as if he were waiting for her to say something else. When she didn’t, he nodded. “Good night, Sophia.”
She stepped out of the car, closing the door behind her, her heart racing.
As the black luxury vehicle pulled away, one thing became clear—she wasn’t just playing a role anymore.
She was getting pulled deeper into Alexander Knight’s world.
And if she wasn’t careful, she might never escape.
