Before long, the call she'd been dreading more than any other came.
"Nati? I'm having trouble reaching Lila. Have you talked to her?"
Nati finished mixing sweetener into her steaming mug of tea and closed her eyes as she put her spoon down on the counter. "Uh, no, actually."
That's odd," her mother answered. "I know she has a tendency to disappear, but she always calls me back eventually. When did you last talk to her?"
"I don't know. It was before the party."
"Me too.".
It was bad luck that her sister's disappearing acts were so normal and so regular that nobody ever actually paid any attention, not even her parents. If Nati had disappeared off the face of the earth, there would have been a manhunt on. Because she always was at home. She had no life.
