"Mother!! I've been rejected again! I just got a text message from the HR at Pacific Holding LTD saying that I'd not be offered employment; it didn't stop there, as I was also instructed to meet up with him in a particular Hotel if I really needed the job badly! They all want me to comprise on my values but I wouldn't! She tearfully said."That's good! You should never comprise on your core morals and values inorder to please any man". Good things only come to those who wait, there's always light at the end of the tunnel— her mother said, as she rubbed the teary cheeks of her daughter, while the comforting went on. To be very honest, I'm gradually losing hope. When will this endless search for a job cease ? I'm not even demanding for a job with a grand salary! I just want to a job that could sort out our everyday bills! Is that so much to ask ? Why I'm so unfortunate ? I'm extremely tired of this constant regression and rejection! Or is being beautiful crime ? Why does nobody wants to genuinely bet on me without desiring my body — Daniella rhetorically asked, while crying even more loudly. Hmmmnnn... I have heard all you said. Please wipe your tears. I know you badly need to start earning a living because our bills are already pilling up, but you still gotta stay patient. I could remember when I first met your deceased father at a coffee shop in Bergamo, he had just gotten out of college and was seeking a better paying job as the meagre €200 he earned as a staff in a poultry farm wasn't enough. During that time, I had several other well to do guys asking me to be their girlfriend but I respectfully declined. Conversing with him was the game changer. Apart from being very handsome, he had so much clarity at such a young age. I don't think I had a met a man so mature at that age! Listening to him speak about all his life goals and aspirations left me dumbfounded. His words were so convincing and you could tell he was very focused & well level headed; right there in mind, I decided to stick and be patient with him. While a couple of my peers at that time, gisted me about their luxurious vacation trips and expensive dates fully sponsored by their men, I wasn't upset with Barella Borges that he could only take me out for Coffee and Ice-Cream dates. It was never a problem for me because his intentions were pure; knowing him, he would obviously had done more if the finances were there. Even when I birthed you, both of us pulled our resources together to offset the hospital bills. Infact, he took more hours at work so we could all be fine. Barella was such a family man that he'd always make out time from his busy schedule to spend quality time with us. It's just very excruciating that he didn't live to enjoy the fruits of his hard-work! Your father died few weeks after he had landed a huge paying job at a tech firm to a fatal car accident; his tragic demise still hurts me till this day. I know you're eventually gonna make it, but please persevere, stay patient and always be grateful for life — Katherine thoroughly narrated with little tears rolling down her eyes.
After the emotional rollercoaster witness by both of them, Daniella felt a huge relief! It was few hours past lunch time already so she decided to go prepare their lunch. She was about to prepare Rissoto — her mom's favourite delicacy. She was taught how to prepare that as early as age 13 by her mom when she still had her sight. Rissoto is an Italian dish very popular among those who lived in the Lombardy region of the country. She quickly changed her clothes and proceeded to Sulmona Market — A nearby local market, where she could purchase the Rice and all other ingredients needed to make that special delicacy.
As she approached the ever busy Sulmona Market, she was getting cat-called by a plethora of men there, as usual. There was no breathing space for her at all!! Every male figure present wanted to strike a conversion with her because of how extremely beautiful she looked. In addition to her beauty, was a figure 8 body with a voluptuous backside that could make any man go gaga!! At all stops, their advances were blatantly refuted. All she wanted to a peaceful walk to Mrs Nicoletta' shop where she could purchase all the necessary ingredients required in the preparation of her mom's favourite delicacy.
Mrs Nicoletta owned one of the biggest shops in Sulmona Market. She was very popular there because of her huge physique and height. She was so tall that you could sight her from miles away! Even without seeing her, you could confirm her presence around because of her husky voice. She birthed three children with her husband and all of them were always present in the shop to assist with sales after school. Her shop had the longest queues because of her friendly nature with her customers. Also, her garrulous nature meant that customers where engaged thoroughly whenever they visited. It was also a tactic she used in cajoling her patronizers to buy items they didn't even need. She was an astute market woman who knew how to drive up sales.
Daniella was a regular patron of Nicoletta' food business. Infact she only patronised her anytime she visited Sulmona Market. Nicoletta and Daniella's mom attended the same high school and became bosom friends thereafter. She was aware of Katherine's blindness and the penury they lived in. So everytime Daniella came, she sold food items to her at a cheaper rate. On days she came without any money, Nicoletta happily sold on credit. She was a benevolent, compassionate woman who fully understood the plights of her best friend. Everytime Daniella visited, she hardly leaves there without having a long, intense, and often scary conversations. The last time she visited, Nicoletta narrated how she survive a near death experience on the highway while driving her kids back home from their friend's birthday party. With just few more walks to her shop, Daniella wondered what will dominate their conversations for the day. Suddenly, she a heard a loud female voice screaming! "Somebody help me! Please."
