I glanced at the counter and raised an eyebrow. Victoria Secret model? Now, why would he think that? I have been seated here for twenty minutes now, being entertained by Peter, as he told me his name was a while ago and was content to keep on listening to his unusual recounts on the history of British monarchy but my ears caught some arguing that was happening behind the cashier counter. At first, I was worried that Tamara might have made a mistake in bringing me here as his cousin seemed frantic. But then I caught a few snippets of their conversations which made me raise my eyebrows.
I look like a Victoria Secret model?
Surreptitiously, I looked down at my chest. I guess my boobs looks okay and my waist slim enough but when I imagined myself in flimsy lingerie then I inwardly laughed. That is one fantasy I don't want to think about.
I looked back at Peter and smiled at him. He made a comment that made me laugh. I was really amazed at how he gets these unusual conclusions. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Tamara carrying a tray and her cousin right on her heels.
"Coffee for the lady. Hey Pete, you wanna help me by the counter. We have a few customers today and my cousin here will be busy." Tamara stated, businesslike as she pulled Pete out of his seat and forcefully pushed him towards the counter, leaving me with his blushing cousin. Blushing? Why is he blushing?
I stood up as he seemed to have no indication of taking a seat. I held out my hand.
"Um, good afternoon, sir. I'm Catarina Dela Roux. I heard from Tamara you were looking for a waitress?"
"Uh yeah. Liam Ricks, owner of Amore Mio." He wiped his hand on his apron before shaking mine, his big hands were rough and calloused. I felt he was actually shaking. I looked up at him curious. I make him nervous, I deduced when he looked me in the eye and then blushed. Did he look at himself at the mirror? I mean he looks like an Adonis, for goodness sake. Why would he even feel nervous in my presence?
We both took a seat and I pulled out my resume from my portfolio before handing it to him. He looked at it and seemed to be reading it word per word. I squirmed in my seat, thinking that this is my chance to get enough money for myself since I don't know when my parents would even come home and I was anxious not to screw it up. I don't even know if being a waitress is enough for what I need but since I have enough savings, which my cunning sister did not manage to fish out as I hid it in a very private place.
I looked at him and was admiring the way his wavy hair was falling onto his forehead when I was jolted by the look in his eyes. I didn't notice that he was staring at me. I was mesmerized by his eyes.
"Ahem." A voice loudly interrupted our staring contest. I didn't know I was looking that intently in his eyes nor was he with mine. We both looked up to see a smirking Tamara holding a plate of pizza and a glass of iced tea. She placed them on the table before looking at her cousin, her arms akimbo.
"Well, do we hire her?" She challenged her cousin with a lift of her brow.
I was curiously looking at the pepperoni pizza sitting in front of me when I noticed that the silence was lengthening. I looked up and noticed the cousins were doing hand gestures that were laughable if not worrisome. I really need to get this job and the fact that they seem to be arguing was not a good sign. Then suddenly, Liam sighed and sat back. He flicked back his hair with his hand and fixed me with his gaze.
"You're hired." He clipped before flicking the papers back into the folder and shuffling it to make it aligned.
What? Is that it? And here I was gearing for a third degree.
"Really? When can I start? I mean, aren't you going to ask me things about my resume or aren't you going to tell me how much would my wages be?"
"Yeah, I've read your file. It looks okay. You can start in the afternoon after classes and you'll get the same wages as Tamara. It will depend on the length of your stay and your performance if I'll keep you or let you go once your one month trial period is over. Your work will be either buss the tables or man the register, wherever you are needed unless of course you know how to cook pizza?"
"Oh, I can cook a lot of things but I never tried pizza making. I think I'd want to learn too." I added as an afterthought.
He laughed at that. His voice deepening and his chuckle was so sexy I squirmed in my seat. What the heck! He doesn't even realize that he is a waking s*x god.
"Nah, that's okay. Tamara and I can do the cooking. So Pete here mans the cashier but when he's out, you have to do the shift. We are a little low on staff but according to Tammy the pay is worth it. So you want the job?" He asked, his smile showing off his twin dimples. Oh my God, can't he be any dreamier.
But then I snapped out of it. Good God woman, the man is your employer!
I stood up with him as though it was a done deal. Which it actually was.
"Thank you for giving me this opportunity, sir. I will do my best to meet your expectations." Again we shook hands but he blushed deeply.
"Hey now, don't call me sir. It make me seem like an ancient doofus. Just call me Liam or Sir Liam when we have customers." Tamara scoffed loudly before waving a hand.
"He's just Liam, Cat. I mean we don't do sirs here you know. We do first name basis and since Catarina is too long to call you, we'll call you Cat. Are we cool?" Tamara intervened. She smiled at me and eyed her cousin with mischief. I giggled at that.
"Uh yeah, so Liam it is. Can I start right now? I don't have anything to do as of now and I'm still working on looking for a self-defense class." I asked as we all took our seats again and Tamara gestured for me to eat.
Liam, to say the least was very forthcoming. He knows a nearby gym that teaches self-defense every weekend in which he was also taking. I was impressed with his capabilities. Not only does he own the pizza parlor, he also manages the gym he was talking about and he was only in his twenties. Talk about a walking Tony Stark.
Once my shift at the pizza parlor ended, he offered to walk me to the gym to get enlisted. Once that was done, I thanked him by hugging him. It seems everything was slowly working to my favor.
