Chapter 11: The Stranger in the Snow

I stormed away from Kaelan and did not look back once. My wrist still burned where he had grabbed it just moments ago. It felt as if the ghost of his fingers was still clinging to my skin, like a dark bruise that simply refused to fade away. I clenched my hand into a tight fist as I walked faster. I wanted to shake off the feeling of him. My boots crunched hard against the stone floor, the sound echoing through the hallway, but I didn't care who heard me.
I felt a hot, bubbling anger inside my chest. Why was he acting like he cared about me now? Why did he look at me like my pain actually mattered to him? Why was he pretending that I mattered at all?
