Sam’s words lingered in the warm air of the small hut. They felt heavy and they were completely impossible for me to ignore.
"Because I have feelings for you, Alex."
For a long heartbeat, I did nothing but stare at him in total silence. My mind simply refused to process the words he had just said. I could hear the fire crackling softly in the small hearth behind him. I heard the snow brushing against the broken glass of the window. The sound felt like a series of whispered warnings that I should not listen to him.
