Today was the day. The rogue Alpha’s son was finally coming to the castle. I felt the change in the atmosphere from the very moment I opened my eyes. The building did not feel like it usually did. It was not quiet or calm. Instead, it felt highly charged, as if a storm were about to break inside the stone walls.
I watched as servants rushed through the long corridors. They moved much faster than usual, carrying large, polished silver trays and heavy cloaks decorated with fine embroidery. The guards at every door stood straighter, their hands resting firmly on the hilts of their swords. Even the air in the halls seemed heavier to me. It felt as if the house itself were holding its breath, waiting for something big to happen.
