Chapter 56: Snow and Venom

The celebration had finally ended hours ago.
The large bonfires that once roared high into the night were now nothing more than smoldering pits of red and black wood. There were no more flames, only the glowing heat of the wood. The loud laughter of the pack members had faded into distant echoes that no longer reached the courtyard. The musicians had packed up their instruments and gone to bed.
The pack had returned inside the castle. I knew they were all in their warm halls and bright chambers. They were tucked away in their safe corners, away from the biting wind.
