Chapter 44: No One Cares Alex The basement felt pitch black. The only thing I could see was a very thin line of weak light that slipped under the heavy wooden door at the top of the stairs. The air inside the room felt damp and stale. It felt heavy with the smell of wet mold and old, rotting stone. I tried to move my arms, but my wrists felt like they were on fire.
