"Alexander?" I said, stunned, my voice barely above a whisper. The HR manager nodded, smiling. "Yes. The only Mr. Vance here is Alexander." Core Splendor's work environment was a night and day difference from Cystone's. I found a new apartment and moved in, finally feeling settled after weeks of chaos and uncertainty. Bruce texted me a few times to check in, and I replied politely, keeping the conversation short. From what he said, Gabriel had gotten into some trouble at Cystone over me—something about arguing with the partners, standing up for me. I pushed it out of my mind; it wasn't my problem anymore. ***** A week later, a coworker stopped by my desk, a stack of resumes in her hand. "Ms. Sterling, the interns from Cystone are coming tomorrow—you'll be in charge of one of them."
