"Did I scare you? I'm sorry. Punish me however you want, but… don't leave me. Please, Vivian. I can't lose you again," he murmured. Helpless, I stood there, unsure how to respond. Deep down, denial was impossible—I still loved Alexander. The first time we'd met in court, calm had been a facade; my heart had been in turmoil. Reconciliation, though, couldn't happen without answers, without an apology. Years of waiting had led to this moment—waiting for him to explain, waiting for him to say he was sorry. Otherwise, the years we'd spent apart, my decision to leave, would all feel like a joke. Rational thought kicked in, too—quitting Core Splendor recklessly was foolish.
