My First Day as a Maid in a Wealthy Household

1023 Words
Following the address given by the domestic service agency, Nina arrived at the city's most expensive villa district. The neighborhood had no more than ten villas, with strict security that only allowed her in after resident verification. She stood timidly at the door of the luxurious villa, biting her cherry blossom-pink lips, and finally, with trembling fingers, pressed the doorbell. The door opened quickly. Nina kept her head down, first seeing a pair of men's house slippers. Then, her gaze slowly moved up to see long legs and a trim waist, and then... she dared not look any higher. "Hello, I'm here to apply for the maid position." Eugene looked at the girl, who kept her head down, her hands tightly gripping the straps of her backpack. She was clearly very nervous. He frowned: "The agency said you're from A University? May I see your student ID?" The agency had already discussed this with Nina. This household required maids to have educational qualifications, and she had the best credentials among all candidates, which led to this opportunity. The wealthy wanted high-quality maids, and Nina needed a high-paying job - it seemed like a perfect match. If only she didn't have such a timid nature. Nina hurriedly took out her ID card and student ID from her backpack. "Look up." "Oh? Okay." Nina raised her head, and a strikingly handsome face carved like a sculpture met her eyes. But his gaze was so frightening... Eugene verified her documents and let her in, his furrowed brow never relaxing as he coldly said, "Wait here for a moment." "Oh, alright." Nina stood helplessly in the entryway, feeling extremely uncomfortable but not daring to move around—the carpets looked so expensive that she couldn't afford to dirty them. She could sense that he wasn't satisfied with her. Eugene went into his study and called his assistant: "I asked you to find a quality maid. Let's say she's qualified enough, but how can such a fragile young girl do any real work? I need someone who can handle the job!" "CEO, I've looked into her background. Nina has been doing housework since she was young. She may look delicate, but she's very efficient. She's quiet, well-behaved, and trustworthy. She'll meet your requirements. Why don't you... give her a try?" "She'd better be. If she leaks any information about my whereabouts, I'll fire her immediately—and you along with her." Eugene hung up, leaving his assistant with a bitter expression. ... Nina's first part-time job began during college. Eugene was a germaphobe who required the house to be spotlessly clean. Every morning, she had to prepare breakfast according to his preferences. If he wanted something she couldn't make, she could buy it, as long as it was clean, hygienic, delicious, and on the dining table by seven in the morning. If he were home for lunch or dinner, she would need to prepare those meals as well, with ingredients that would be delivered. Additionally, when Eugene was home, she had to be available at a moment's notice. The humane aspect was that the agreement specified she could be absent during her class times, ensuring her regular studies, but she had to stay in the villa at all other times to follow the CEO's instructions. She had one day off per month for personal matters. The first month was a probationary period, during which she could be dismissed if her performance was unsatisfactory. The probationary salary was 20,000, increasing to 30,000 after becoming permanent. The assistant had explicitly requested her class schedule and warned her that being absent during non-class hours would result in a 1,000 deduction per occurrence. This made Nina quite nervous—would someone come to check if she was at the CEO's villa? Of course, she promised herself she would stay dutifully in the villa, unafraid of checks, and visit her mother on her day off. Nina moved into the Cheng household the same day she signed the contract. She was still very nervous on her second visit to this villa, but fortunately, Eugene wasn't home that day. The villa was huge, three stories tall. Before Nina came, only Eugene lived here. The villa had plenty of rooms, and they assigned her a small room on the third floor rather than the storage room—this was probably preferential treatment; after all, she was just a maid, and they wouldn't let her stay in any room she wanted even if they were all empty. Eugene lived on the second floor, and the assistant repeatedly warned her not to go there without the CEO's permission, even for cleaning. She could only clean after he gave permission. Her regular cleaning duties were mainly the first, third, and stairs. After settling her belongings, Nina automatically began cleaning. She knew being a maid would be embarrassing if people found out, and she was terrified of Eugene—even just being in an unfamiliar environment was enough to frighten her—but she still wanted to become permanent and stay. Speaking of embarrassment, since middle school, she has worked as a dishwasher in restaurants, a supermarket promoter, and even a sorting and packing worker at a logistics company. She has tried almost every part-time job possible. She has long understood that poverty itself is the most significant indignity in life. Even working three part-time jobs wouldn't have brought such a high income as a freshman, and she desperately needed money. With money, her sick mother wouldn't have to work anymore; they could pay off their debts, move to a new place, and stop constantly worrying about debt collectors knocking on their door. She wouldn't have to worry about next year's tuition fees or whether she could afford to eat the next day. Thinking this way, Nina scrubbed the floor with even more dedication, full of energy, and without feeling tired. She cleaned from three in the afternoon until nine at night, cooking herself a bowl of noodles in between. The assistant said she could eat anything from the refrigerator, but she couldn't secretly waste food or take anything away.
