Nina had naturally done them and handed over her book.
"Why does our teacher always assign homework and dictations? Making us feel like elementary school students. Other classes have it so easy," Isolde complained while copying.
"It's not much; I finished it in less than ten minutes. The teacher doesn't want us to neglect our studies completely."
Isolde finished copying quickly and was about to say something when the teacher came in, so she could only give Nina a look: We'll talk after class.
After two English classes, Isolde walked with Nina to the Modern Literature classroom while rolling her eyes: "Niannian, come with me to the Literature Society this afternoon. I think you'd be great at writing poetry and novels. Yesterday, a senior told me that Professor Yu is the faculty advisor!"
Nina was about to decline when she froze: "Professor Yu? You mean Professor Ralph Yu, who'll be teaching us later?"
"How about it? You're interested too, aren't you? Professor Yu is talented and handsome - everyone would want to join if they knew."
"I'm not going."
"Huh?"
"Don't we have Classical Literature this afternoon? Aren't you going to class?"
"Classical Literature ends at three, and the activity starts at three-thirty. There's plenty of time. Come with me!"
Nina was tempted but had to return to the villa after class. Perhaps she wouldn't be discovered even if she went to the activity and returned later, but having received such a high salary, cleaning once a day was the bare minimum.
She neither wanted to be fired nor make money without doing the work.
When they reached the classroom, Professor Yu was already setting up the PowerPoint.
While Isolde was still trying to convince her to join the Literature Society, they suddenly heard Professor Yu say, "Niannian, come here for a moment."
Nina exchanged a nervous glance with Isolde before walking over: "Professor Yu."
"This remote pointer has an issue. Could you help me get a replacement from the Educational Technology Center?"
"Oh, sure."
Nina took the remote pointer and ran to the Educational Technology Center. Though it wasn't far, just a few classrooms away, the class had already started when she returned.
Ralph Yu had already begun his introduction and naturally continued lecturing after taking the pointer back.
Nina's heart was racing, and her hands were shaking, though she wasn't sure if it was from running or something else.
He had touched her hand just now. Nina bit her lip, telling herself he was a teacher; it was just an accidental touch, and he wouldn't hurt her! Don't be afraid!
"What's your relationship with Professor Yu? He even calls you Niannian. Do you know each other?" Isolde wouldn't let it go, whispering from below.
Modern Literature History was a class for the entire Chinese department, held in the largest classroom. Unlike in the English class, they didn't dare chat during it.
Nina didn't want to talk: "Listen to the lecture."
"Then you should join the Literature Society and introduce me to Professor Yu. With so many people, how else will he notice me?" After saying this, she suddenly thought of something and asked, "Could he remember her because she's pretty?"
Nina felt even more troubled. She always attended class with Isolde and, being shy, had never even spoken up in class. She didn't know how Professor Yu had remembered her: "Then you won't be able to skip classes anymore. Didn't you say you wanted to skip class for dates once you started dating?"
"Ah, that's true."
Isolde finally quieted down.
Although Nina was shy, she usually paid close attention in class, always listening carefully and taking notes. Today, however, she kept her head down, looking at the textbook, not once glancing at the blackboard. While she used to think Professor Yu's lectures were good, today, everything sounded like gibberish to her ears. Finally making it to the end of class, she understood how Isolde felt about time dragging on forever in English class.
She worried Professor Yu might call her again after class, but fortunately, he didn't.
"Professor Yu looked over here several times earlier, but you were just spacing out."
"Huh?"
"Never mind, where are you living now that you moved out of the dorm yesterday?"
Isolde and Nina had previously been roommates, which is why they attended classes together and became close friends.
"Didn't I tell you? I found a part-time job that provides accommodation. Otherwise, returning late at night would be too dangerous, and I wouldn't make it before curfew."
"Do they still need people? I'm interested too since my living allowance isn't enough.
"They're not hiring anymore, and if you went, you wouldn't be able to participate in club activities."
Isolde gave up. She talked about how working part-time could compare to having fun with seniors. She already felt like she didn't have enough time.
After afternoon classes, Nina rode her bicycle back to the villa without wasting a second.
It was still empty with just her there, but she felt safer here than anywhere else.
It could be because there were well-trained security personnel, and the villa itself had a very sophisticated security system.
After all, it was the CEO of Cheng Corporation's villa.
Nina returned to her room, put down her backpack, and hugged her knees until her fear finally subsided somewhat. Then she gathered her energy to start today's cleaning.
...
Eugene's schedule was packed. In the morning, he had two meetings about an acquisition case and establishing a film and television company. In the afternoon, he had to meet with the CEO of British T&Y Company to discuss cooperation matters, followed by dinner. After that, he would return to the company to sign various documents.
As CEO of the Cheng Corporation, Eugene was always busy.
On his way to meet with T&Y's CEO, his mother, Eirlys Yu, called: "Yan, are you free tonight? Are you coming home for dinner?"
"I have something on," Eugene said briefly.
Eirlys Yu sighed: "Mom knows you don't like your second uncle and the others, but you can't avoid visiting your parents because of that, right?"
