Aliana
One, two. One, two. One, two...
I repeated to myself as I tried to push past the crowd. There were a lot of people in the streets today, and they all wanted to go to a dry place, safe from the heavy rain. How much I hate Sundays...
In general, the fewer people saw me is the better, but we couldn't postpone this mission any longer. I need to get that box as soon as possible, before that lunatic gives it to the police. They would definitely end my stepfather's career, and they would send him to prison.
My life didn't turn out like a fairy tale, that's for sure. After the early death of my mother, I was left alone to fend for myself. I was sent off to many different families and group homes, but I always found myself going back to the orphanage. Something wasn't right with me, that's for sure. At times I just felt... like I'm drowning, I'm not able to do what I'm supposed to do, but every inch of me is screaming at me to do it. Eventually, I used to stay still, and that's when terrible things happen.
Until it all stopped, and my stepfather, Thayer Stormare came into my life. We met at the hospital where he worked. I was sent there after an "unfortunate accident". He realized what was happening to me, and soon I found myself in his home, under his care. He and his wife, Sarah were never blessed with any children, so they happily welcomed me into their life. The past five years have been the happiest period of my life. My new father introduced me to a very different lifestyle from what I had been used to.
Everything was fine, until Decimus Carmine appeared in our lives. That lunatic private investigator took it into his head to expose my father's dirty businesses. He will do everything to achieve his goal, no matter what. This is why I'm in the middle of the Sunday rush: the investigator managed to steal a few of my father's documents. Luckily, his paranoid self thought that a private, basically 'keeping things hidden for criminals' company was his best shot to keep us away from the documents, so we had a chance to steal them back without raising too much attention.
"Are you ready?" James, one of my coworkers asked me when I finally arrived to the place we had previously agreed on.
"When am I not?" I shot back with a grin. Excitement ran through me as I watched our destination not far from us. The building was an old-looking pet shop, disguising its true purpose.
I tried not to notice him staring as I discarded my turquoise trench coat, my personal before-battle attire. I know that he likes me from his hungry looks on my muscled body, but honestly... I don't have time for things like that.
"Shall we begin?" I asked, interrupting his ogliging.
"Yeah" James gulped, then started to follow me, as I was already on my way to the 'pet shop'.

"Just a little bit longer" I thought to myself as I quickly crawled through the vent. James was responsible for hacking their security. Hopefully they will struggle to fix it, so I can sneak into the storage behind the shop. The growls and mewls of the animals under the ceiling had quieted down, which meant that I was close to my destination. I took a quick peek at the room under me. To my luck, most of the guards stationed outside the storage, only one was marching in the room. The loud noise of the alarm allowed me to remove the grid from its place without attracting the guard's attention. I kept holding it to appear like nothing happened.
"F.ck" I heard James' angry voice through my earphone. "Be quick Ali, I can't distract them for too long... Their security guy is brilliant."
"Guy? It can easily be a girl, you himsovinist!" I hissed back, as I watched the movement of the guard. When he turned his back on me, I speedily moved the grid, and threw one of my special home-made canisters into the storage. It started to smoke, causing the man to take notice of the danger. He ran to it, his brows furrowing in confusion. The canister chose the exact same moment to blow up, leaving pieces of metal and angry sparks to run across the room. I hopped to the storage, and handled the screaming guard with a side kick to his face, and started to look for the box as fast as I could. The man passed out due to my kick as well as the pain from the metal pieces that flew to his body.
Thanks to our resources, I already knew that the door of the storage was highly protected, and only the top security had access to open it. The guards probably heard the peer's scream, so they were alerting their boss right now. Which meant I didn't have much time left.
The storage was quite huge, each of the shelves contained the treasure of thugs. I found the box on a secluded shelf, when I heard the unmistakable sound of the electronic door's opening.
"Sh.t" I muttered, as I prepared myself for the fight. "Code Red" I whispered James.
I took out two canisters from my belt, and quickly threw them to the guards, who entered the room. While they were distracted, I started to fight with the third one. Fists went flying as we fought with each other, and I noticed in the corner of my eye, that the other two wouldn't be on the ground for long.
"Red is turned into purple" I heard James. I smiled, knowing he took care of a distraction for me, so all I had to do was get out of here with the box. I used my last can to distract the last guard standing, and I rushed out with the box in my hand.
After a small corridor, I found myself in the animal shop. As James promised, I didn't run into anyone here. I went to another opening of the vent, since I had memorized the whole map of the building beforehand.
I almost climbed in, when I locked eyes with a big black injured cat. Her cage was the closest to me, tucked away in the back of the store.

" Seriously?" Asked James incredulously.
"What? I can't just left her there!" I smirked, holding Fluffy in my hand.
We successfully accomplished our mission, so we were waiting outside my father's office, until he checked the contents of the box.
"Ali! Come in!" He said, and I quickly did as he told me to. His office in our home was modern, dominated by black and white colours. Only his armchair behind his desk stood out with its red fabric. My smile was immediately replaced with a scowl. Firstly, because his troubled expression told me that the documents he wanted to take back were probably not in the box. Secondly, he was not alone in the room.
Next to him stood a young, really strong-looking guy. He wore a simple red T-shirt with black pants, his eyes were already traveling down my body, a smirk plastered on his devilishly handsome face. The hell with this guy! He was already on my nerves.
"Ali, your mission is not accomplished" My father sighed. "It looks like our informator was wrong, there's still something in Decimus' possession."
"What do you need me to do?" I asked instantly.
"I entrust you with a more difficult task. You need to break into his house." He stated. I understand that, but what is this stranger doing here?
"He will be working with you from now" Said Thayer, quickly understanding my silent question. "He is our new member, Adriel."
