Stefanos hated the head games men played, and hoped that he would not be bothered by such things, that people would not recognize him without his armour from the previous day. However, one of the Athenians spotted Stefanos and laughed out loud!
"There's that Argive! Don't trip and hurt yourself before you reach the stadium old man!"
Stefanos ignored the comment, and tried very hard to do the same with the rising chorus that echoed the mockery of the first. Men began to turn toward him and chuckle, others shrugged and got on with their own business.
As they stepped into the krypte, Stefanos could see the stadium stretch out ahead of them, just above the heads of the men before him.
The sound that greeted the athletes as they emerged from the krypte was like an angry wave upon a harbour
