Chapter Twenty-Two: All Things Come to Pass…Together, they stood on the threshold of the old house. Having cycled there at a furious pace, both now sagged over the handlebars of their bikes, panting. For Jamie, this was the culmination of weeks of confusion and fear. He knew if he was to bring it all to an end, he must once again step inside. Three hours previously, Jamie had slid out of bed, gripped with a curious elation. No dreams had interrupted his sleep and, seeming to underline this new-found positivity, when he threw back his bedroom curtains the sunshine streamed in. Closing his eyes, he sighed deeply and let the warmth fill him with its golden glow. Everything changed when he went downstairs. He'd found his mother sitting at the table, a cold cup of coffee clasped in her hands
