(Lucas’ POV) They were keeping me overnight for observation. I wasn’t exactly thrilled with the idea, but then they said they were admitting Tracey and that changed everything. The doctor we had was very understanding. He even arranged it so we’d be put in a room together, so Tracey wouldn’t wake up alone. While we were being moved he was checking Tracey’s chart. We were in the elevator together when he asked, “O’Dell, and you're from California. Any chance you know an Elizabeth O’Dell?” I chuckled a little as I said, “She’s my mother.” He smiled warmly as he said, “She’s a lovely woman. We went to med school together. She was in my study group, actually. We became friends, but I haven’t seen her in years. I hope she’s doing well?” His comment was more of a statement than a question,
