Stephanie gave me a sad little nod and I smiled at her. “Lucas and I will help you. If it’s a matter of what he might do, then I can promise you we will protect you. We’ll get you any help you might need. You just have to say the word. But if you don’t want to leave him, then we’ll respect that too. The choice is yours. Just know we’re here to support you, whatever you choose.”
I actually think Stephanie appreciated my candor. She seemed almost… relieved? Maybe she just wanted someone to acknowledge what she’s going through. I don’t know. I do know that when I was going through something similar with Roger I felt all alone, like I couldn’t say anything about what I was experiencing.
It’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to go through.
