After hanging up the phone, the smile on Jacqueline's face suddenly disappears. Theodore regains his mind, carelessly flicks off the ash that accidentally fell on his leg, and sneers, "I'm your friend?"
"Don't take it seriously. I just don't want my mother to worry." Jacqueline says coldly.
"Oh?" Theodore presses the cigarette into the ashtray and says casually, "why can't we be friends?"
"Hum..." Jacqueline sneers, "we can be enemies or strangers, but we can never become friends."
"Really?" Theodore fiddles with the lighter in his hands and hang his eyes slightly, as a cover for his emotions. A moment later, the corners of his lips are slightly warped, and he asks. "If friends are not an option, how about lovers?"
Jacqueline couldn't help laughing. She leans against the window, her eyes full of irony, and says in a positive tone, word by word:" The best possible relationship between you and me are strangers."
"I'm afraid not." Theodore drops the lighter, stands up calmly, looks at her calmly, smiles, and says, "You still owe me a favor. In this case, I'm at least your creditor! Though I haven't figured out how to get it back from you."
"Don't get me wrong." Jacqueline said carelessly, "I won't admit anything once you get out of this door. What can you do to me?"
"Oh?" Theodore slightly raises his eyebrows and says in a cold voice, "As businessmen, we never do business without proof. We will always keep something in case the other side doesn't keep its promises. For example, how about some sexy photos of your naked body? "
"You..." Jacqueline's eyes narrow and then smiles like she doesn't care at all. "Then you can keep them! Anyway, I'm not a celebrity. It doesn't matter whether people see those photos or not."
"Well, remember your words." Theodore nods and says nothing more.
Somebody knocks on the door of the room, and Theodore answers, "Who's that?"
"Mr. Palmer, the clothes are ready." A waiter's voice sounds outside.
Theodore moves slowly to open the door. Then he comes in with two bags.
Jacqueline picks up the bags that contain her clothes without saying a word. She hurries into the bathroom to change her clothes.
When she has tidied up, Theodore is still sitting in the clouds of smoke, looking decadent. Jacqueline's eyes didn't stay on him for a second and rushes straight to her handbag.
Just a step after picking up her handbag, she turns around, takes out her wallet, counts her money in her wallet, and leaves only one note for her taxi and dinner expenses along the way, and throws the remaining 500 or so dollars on the bedside table.
"Your service fees. Keep the change. It's your tip." Jacqueline tries to think of herself as a rich woman who had just called for special services. Thinking like that, the evil spirit in her heart is slightly evacuated. With that, she doesn't dare to look at his face, let alone wait for his further action. Jacqueline hurriedly opens the door and leaves in high heels. It almost seems like she is running away.
It is not until he heard the sound of the door closing that Theodore glanced helplessly at the stack of notes, and gets up to put on his clothes.
Jacqueline is a little late when she goes to the company. Fortunately, she has made some explanations to her leaders in advance. She is in the general administration department. Her salary is not high, while her work is not busy, either. Therefore, she could have enough time to accompany her mother.
She likes the job very much, but Samuel doesn't like her indomitable attitude. He is a very self-motivated and even competitive person. He used to be the first in the department at school. His tuition has always been covered by his scholarship rewards, and his living expenses also depend on his part-time income. To be fair, he is an excellent person, with his handsome appearance, profound knowledge, and superb working ability. If it weren't for his lack of family background and the encumbrance of a sick mother and brother at home, the girls who would like to marry him could fill a whole square.
Samuel is a person with strong self-esteem. Jacqueline is a little tired during her relationship with him since she is the more accommodating one in everything. It's no fun for two people to care much at all times.
Their relationship should have been in crisis for a long time, but Jacqueline doesn't delve into it. In recent months, when she called him to go on dates, he refused her invitation with excuses of working overtime. He once said that he would give her a rich and happy future with his ability, but now it seems that her future has nothing to do with him!
Jacqueline looks at the photos of Samuel and her in the photo album on her phone and presses the delete button expressionless. She is surprised that she could be so calm in the face of the betrayal of love and friendship, perhaps because she has already made psychological preparations subconsciously?
Her throat is a little swollen and painful. She opens the drawer and couldn't find medicines for the cold.
"Forget it, I can handle this!"
She dares not get sick, or her mother will worry for her.
"I was a little neglectful yesterday. I was drunk. And I wandered in the street during the rain and caught a cold."
Then her mind turns to the scene this morning. Theodore is back! Although she doesn't want to admit it, she begins to get confused! If there is someone in the world she would never like to meet anymore, that is Theodore. But God makes fun of her and lets her meet him at the most embarrassing moment! She is glad she didn't go home in the state she was in yesterday. Otherwise, her mother would be extremely worried.
By the time when Jacqueline goes to the toilet in the morning, she just closes the door of the compartment and hears two female colleagues outside discussing Samuel.
It's embarrassing that she and Samuel are in the same company, but he works hard in sales with a high salary, while she shrinks to the general administration department without a bright future. Fortunately, they are not in the same department, let alone on the same floor. It is difficult for them to meet usually, and they always keep a low profile, so the colleagues in her department don't know her relationship with him.
She likes her current job very much and doesn't want to change her job because of Samuel. Otherwise, she is in a department with a strong atmosphere to talk gossips like the general administration department. The shitty things between her, Samuel, and Helen are enough for these people to talk about for several months, and she's not sure whether she can survive those months with confidence against the attention of everyone.
Fortunately, the days haven't changed much, except for Samuel.
"Ahhhchu..." Jacqueline sneezes on her nose. The two voices outside the door stopped. Then, with a burst of footsteps, they left here.
What an embarrassment! Her colleagues were talking about seeing her and Samuel walking along the street together. And that they looked so close that everyone would think that they were lovers. As a result, they were interrupted by her sneeze.
After rubbing her nose, Jacqueline decides to buy cold medicine before anything else at noon.
