Chapter 2

1290 Words
BLAKES POV “I’m sorry if I scared you... if it helps, Dean’s chewed me out for it. I didn’t mean to scare you.” Am I rambling? I’m acting weird. “Man, you’re not doing so hot, come on.” “Dean... I swear, if you don’t work with me here...” “What are you going to do? Kill me? I’m apart of you! Good luck!” I need to get her to talk. “I’m Blake...” I honestly have no idea what to say or do. “I know. You're the Alphas' first born son. Aren’t you gonna reject me now?” She doesn’t look at me anymore but starts picking the skin around her nails. “Why would I reject you? I’ve been waiting for you for two years.” Us wolves don’t really work the traditional ways that humans do. Humans don’t have mates nor is it normal for humans to marry and settle down at as early an age as 18, but it is for us. Some wolves take between one to 5 years for them to find their true mates. Even then, it could take longer for some. The high school we attend is a werewolf school specifically built on our pack land so that we were able to keep the human community separate from the wolf community. Humans were terrified of the ‘impossible’, as they would call it. Being in a school consisting of wolves helped in the fact that everyone here knew about mate bonds and wasn’t weird out with how it works at our age. My mate looked up at me and let out a sigh like what she was about to say was hard for her. “My name is Kiera Toblin. Everyone at this school thinks they know me and have labeled me a murderer for killing my parents when I was 12. Rings any sort of bell?” Kiera stopped fiddling with her fingers and stood up straighter, almost like she was getting defensive. I back up a little to give her some space because, quite frankly, her change in posture and demeanor has got me thinking that I might have to be careful with anything further. “A murderer?! Who the hell!!... I’ll kill them all. Everyone that has ever hurt her!” “Dean, this isn’t what she needs right now.” “Kiera is a beautiful name. Look, of course, I’ve heard stories but I never paid attention to them. I’m not one for gossip, my father always told me it was counterproductive. Can we sit and talk? Or... or maybe you would want to ditch the rest of the school day with me?” God, I hope she ditches school with me, this place smells of stale air and teenage hormones. It’s annoying. “You want me to skip school with you? And do what, because honestly, if at the end of the day I have to go through a rejection I’d rather just get it over with now.” Her crossing her arms makes me want to chuckle a little bit. She’s five foot two, for crying out loud! “I have no intention of rejecting you. I’ve been waiting for you, you’re my other half that the moon goddess made for me.” She looks at me like she’s trying to figure out if I’m lying or not. Or maybe she was talking to her wolf. She’s difficult to read. “Ok.” “You’ll come with me?” Just OK? What does that even mean? “Yea, I’ll ditch with you, I didn’t really want to go to Calculus anyway.” I reach for Kieras's hand when she backs away slightly, so I grab her bag off the floor instead. “Follow me, I want to show you something.” A smile I couldn’t contain spread across my face and I led the way to my car parked outside the auditorium entrance. KIERAS POV I understood early on that anyone who would turn out to mate with me would most likely reject me, because let's face it... I’m the pack murderer. No one wants someone who murdered her parents around them or their family. Maybe everyone thinks that if they got close to me that they would be next. I don’t necessarily disagree... Blake says he doesn’t want to reject me. Does that mean he doesn’t want to reject me right now or at all? Everyone leaves eventually. He will too. I can’t get too attached because it’ll hurt too much. Following Blake out to his car wasn’t something that I ever did. I didn’t leave school unless I went back to the packhouse, since I technically worked and lived around the kitchens and laundry rooms. Does Blake know that I’m next to nothing? “Let me clean the seat off for you, sorry I usually don’t have people in my car, which is why my car tools are everywhere in the back.” Blake said as he opened the passenger door, revealing wrenches, brake part cleaner and what looked like old brake pads. Once he got the seat cleaned off and his car stuff where he wanted it in the back, he made a show of holding the door open for me. His grin spread across his face the longer I gave him that raised eyebrow look I usually slap on almost like he really wanted me to go with him. “Because he does K, come on Hun, don’t let doubt creep in, just go. Take the leap.” "Leslie, everyone who gets close to me leaves me.' “He's still here...” Taking my own wolf's advice, I grabbed onto the handle to propel myself into Blakes truck. Blake closes the door and walks around to the driver's door and, I hate to say it, I watch him the whole time. He’s tall, but almost everyone is. Blake is roughly 6 feet, maybe a little taller, with shaggy brown hair. His eyes earlier showed that he and his wolf were present at the same time, one eye appearing green, almost blue, and one black. His jeans look like they’ve taken a beating or two, maybe a few years old, partnered with a regular t-shirt that fit him like it was made specifically for him, showing his upper arm muscles and the outline of his sculpted torso. Working in the laundry quarters, I’ve never seen any of his clothes down there. Maybe he washed his own clothes, but that is unheard of in the Alpha family, since they usually don’t have much time for anything else aside from protecting the pack and providing for those that are struggling. Blake must have noticed me staring at him because as the engine roared to life, he turned toward me with one of those cheesy grins that reminded me of a child in a candy store. “I want to take you somewhere. I’ve always saved it for when I meet my mate but I don’t want to scare you off-” He was starting to ramble like he was nervous. “Hey, take a breath, I’m already in your truck, trust me when I say this is the most anyone has ever interacted with me without tormenting me. I would love to see whatever you wish to show me.” After the words came out of my mouth, I got embarrassed. “Ok, good! I mean thank you!” And with that Blake turned towards traffic and he started heading north out of town, driving through a part of the woods I had never been.
