Chapter Two

Chapter Two Phoenix looked at google maps, for the nearest forest. Her top priority today was to let Ava out for a run, so her wolf could settle down a little. She knew once the wolf’s paws hit the ground of a forest, she would be one-hundred-percent back on board with the plan they both had to ‘find themselves’. The closest area she could find was the Parc Natural del la Serra de Collserola just to the east of the city. Making her way out of her apartment, Phoenix walked through the city streets, taking in the sites of the amazing architecture of the city. She hopped onto a local bus that would take her near to the park. Looking out of the window at the scenery, the closer she got to the lush green landscape, the calmer Ava felt within her. Once she arrived, she looked at the trails, it seemed it was a place for tourists, letting out a frustrated sigh, she moved deep into the wooded areas, hoping to find a quiet spot to shift. After trekking for a couple of hours, and not seeing a soul for over half-an-hour, Phoenix decided it was safe to shift. Taking off her jeans and t-shirt, she allowed Ava to push forward, taking control of her body. “Keep in the dense undergrowth, just in case Ava,” Phoenix warned her wolf. “Yeah, now let me take a look around,” Ava said, wagging her tail excitedly. Sniffing the ground and the air around her, Ava began to run around the forest, loving the feeling of the wind in her light brown fur. “I cannot smell any werewolves,” Ava huffed slightly. “I know, but there are lots of other forests, not too far away as well, it makes sense no packs would live on this land as it is a nature reserve, and popular with the tourists,” Phoenix appeased her disappointed wolf. Ava began to run around the forest sniffing at the ground and the trees, then satisfied with the scent she c****d her leg against a tree stump. “Seriously Ava, you are not a male wolf! Stop Doing That!” Phoenix cried out to her wolf internally shaking her head. “But it is fun, and the long grass tickles in all the right places. Given there are no werewolf’s about, so I am not finding my mate anytime soon, this is the only pleasure I have. I don’t have battery operated toys to get relief unlike you! Deal with it!” Ava argued, feeling rather pleased with herself. “That was ONE time! And you never let me forget it. Seriously, you have spent far too much time with Mam’s wolf Sheba,” Phoenix sighed out in defeat. After an hour Phoenix found herself back with her clothes, then shifted, and begun to head back home. Making a ‘To Do’ list in her head, she decided to get all her shopping, and equipment ready to start university in a week. …………………… The last week had passed slowly. She had only visited the nature reserve, thinking that she would try out the other forests after she started University. Hopeful she would meet other werewolves who could guide her towards a friendly pack, who would not mind her interacting with them. Phoenix had, at first, enjoyed living alone, but now she was going stir crazy for company other than her wolf. Excitement bubbled in her stomach, today she would start at University; finally she would see people. She had almost given up a couple of days ago and rang her dad to ask if she could come home until she started at Uni, she knew that he would agree immediately, but if she was going to do this, she had to tough out the loneliness, so decided against the idea, as tempting as that was. Today though, was the start of fresher’s week, and she was looking forward to meeting new people, along with seeing what the university had available for post-grad students. For all she missed home, she really did not miss the Scottish weather, the sunshine always made everything feel a little better, and she enjoyed the heat prickling her skin as she walked through the streets of Barcelona. When she arrived at the campus, she took a look at the map the university had sent her and made her way to the area allocated for new arrivals, so she could register her attendance. Walking up the steps, there were lots of students stood around advertising the various clubs. She smiled at the people, taking a few leaflets, deciding to take a better look once she had her paperwork all sorted. The queue for registration was long, and she took her place at the back. Suddenly a scent filled her nostrils, and Ava begun to perk up. “Who is that?” Ava excitedly asked. “I don’t know,” Phoenix answered, recognising the scent of a werewolf. “Find them, we have to speak with whoever it is,” Ava insisted. “I will once I register, calm down,” Phoenix stated, she knew her wolf would be excited to meet another werewolf, but there was no guarantee they would be happy to see another wolf from a different country in their space. “The scent is familiar. It is like I know them,” Ava continued, wagging her tail like crazy inside Phoenix's head. “What, that is impossible. Do you think it could be our mate?” Phoenix asked, suddenly worried about the low-slung combat trousers she had worn and tight black top that showcased her toned abdomen, then cursed herself for not even putting some lip gloss on or doing something other than a ponytail with her long brown hair. “Hurry up, the scent is moving away!!!” Ava shouted at her. “Calm down, we have to register, we will find it again. If it is our mate, I want to head home and put something pretty on,” Phoenix argued with her wolf, still concerned about her appearance. It was unusual for her to care about what others thought on what she wore or how she looked, having a mother who was, ‘individual’, with her clothing choices, nobody cared what anyone wore at the Royal pack, but for some reason she was beginning to panic about it. “Don’t be daft, if it is our Mate, he will not care what you are wearing it will end up on the floor soon enough anyway,” Ava argued back. “Erm, no, I understand that you are a horny b***h with one thing on your mind. But just because there is a mate bond, does not mean I will go stripping off and doing the deed straight away. I want to get to know him first,” Phoenix argued. “Yeah right, when you feel the sparks, you will be begging for it, just as much as I will,” Ava stated. Finally, Phoenix came to the front of the queue, and began to fill in her paperwork. The lady behind the desk was very friendly, as she chatted away in her thick Spanish accent. Issuing Phoenix with her student ID card and giving her lots of information about the different clubs, and organised events for freshers week. Thanking her, Phoenix headed out of the building, as Ava paced around in her head, eager to smell the scent again. “Ava, will you calm down.” “Hurry up, go around all the stands, he has been here. I am sure I know him,” Ava responded. Phoenix stopped by the various clubs, deciding to join the book club, then came up to the club called ‘Children of the Forest.’ Instantly she was hit by the scents of werewolves, and she relaxed slightly, but then another wave of anticipation hit her. What if they would not accept her as one of their number? Deciding there was only one way to find out, she mustered up her courage and made her way over to the stand. “Hola” the voice of a tall girl with long glossy black hair asked. She was stunningly beautiful, tall, slim but with curves to die for, large brown eyes that shone with friendliness. Phoenix could feel that she was a high-ranking wolf and wondered if her Omega statues would be a problem for the Spanish wolves. “Hola, ¿habla usted Inglés?” Phoenix asked, although she knew a little Spanish, she was not fluent by any means. “Si, welcome, I am Amalia beta female of the Montseny Forest Pack.” Amalia smiled warmly. “Nice to meet you, I am Phoenix of the Crescent Moon Pack.” Phoenix introduced herself, missing off her title and rank. Not that she wanted to hide who she was, but because she did not want to sound like a ‘d**k’ or have people treat her differently because she was a member of the Royal Family in the UK. “Si Phoenix, so have you been in Catalunya long?” Amalia asked, her smile wide and welcoming. “Just a week.” Phoenix smiled back at her, hoping Amalia was as friendly as she seemed. “For sure, you are most welcome. Our Alpha is very welcoming to international students, who perhaps need a pack to become a temporary member of when studying here. He has allocated part of our lands, for you all, it has its own pack house, small houses for you to stay, and you are welcome to almost all of our events, other than the official pack meetings and meetings with our council.” Amalia smiled again. “Oh Wow, that is amazing, my wolf Ava and I have been hoping to meet a friendly pack, where we can go for a run, and interact with. I have an apartment here in the city but would love to be able to mix with a pack on a weekend.” Phoenix grinned happily. “For sure, you are most welcome. Our park lands are in the Montseny forest, hence our name. So… what are you studying here?” Amalia asked. “I am doing my doctorate on Economics and Law, what about you?” Phoenix asked, hoping she would have a friend in Amalia, as she really liked the girl. “I am doing a masters in mythology. However, we must meet up when we can, here is my mobile number, you can send a text or call me anytime, I will answer you.” Amalia smiled. “Gracias Amalia, so where else do you recommend, I look whilst here?” Phoenix asked “Oh, for sure you should come to the Moonlight Night. It is basically a, how do you say, pub crawl, for the werewolf freshers, tomorrow night. It is around the city, but it will help you meet others such as we are.” Amalia smiled, then passed over another flyer to Phoenix. “Thank you, yes I will attend.” Phoenix grinned at her new friend. Phoenix smiled and waved as she left Amalia to deal with the queue of people looking for information on the club, none of which were werewolf, and so they had different information given to them about the club, which held nights that were for humans, and did not involve meeting the pack. Phoenix walked away happy she had made a werewolf friend when Ava became excited once more. “Here, look I can smell him again, just down there, follow the scent,” Ava shouted enthusiastically. Phoenix followed the scent, it was not as strong as she had heard a mate bond scent was, but maybe that was because she was an Omega. Rounding a corner to see a wolf, who looked around her age. He stood at around 6ft 2 inches, broad muscles strained against his tight white t-shirt, his hair was short, a light brown colour, he was also a ranking wolf, and she felt her heart quicken, although the man was gorgeous, she was strangely unattracted to him, but he was somebody to her, of that she was certain, and she felt a bond with him, much like with Asher and Hamish at home. Who is he? She wondered, then took a step forward towards him, as he turned around their eyes met. “Brother!” Ava shouted out. “Sister?” the man stated, looking at Phoenix in complete shock.
