The final ride into West Ridge was easy as the terrain drained the run-off of the early winter snows into the western sea. The queen’s cousin and her husband kept a neat castle with modest, defensible barns and strong walls. I could see why Laurel had thought of this place when she sought a safe haven for her pregnancy.
