Act One Scene One

Micheal walks out of his classroom to Temitope’s and Samuel’s class,he sees only Samuel sitting at his desk and solving Q and As

Michael: hey

Samuel :( raises his head to look at him ) what’s up

Micheal: (he sits on Temitope’s sit which is right next to Samuel’s) where’s Temi?

Samuel:Miss Clara called him,class prefect stuff

Micheal:ohh I see( Samuel turns back to his book) dude it’s break time abeg let’s go

Samuel: oga let me finish this year that I’m doing then we’ll go

Michael: shey you know sey na all of us de write the waec abi

Samuel: you mean the waec that is starting in two weeks ba( he says as if stating a point)

Micheal : ( puts his hand around samuels neck and closes his book) did you forget that it was school that added break time to our time table….let’s go joh

Samuel: ( sighs in surrender) fine but let’s go and get Temi first( he puts his books in his back pack)

Micheal: fine (they walk up to the door and bump into Temi coming in) see the goat sef

Temi:mmmeeehhh( he playfully imitates a goat and they laugh) where are we going

Michael: call the girls then canteen

Temi: wait let me carry my money( he quickly runs into the class and takes his money from his bag before running back out) let’s go

They walk down the stairs to the next floor which is commercial floor laughing and joking around…..(the school uniform is a white long sleeved packet shirt over black trousers,black pull over,black neck tie black blazers ,with the school badge and name tags on It ,white socks and black or white sneakers,same goes goes for girls except that that wear skirts and longer socks) …….they meet Cynthia and Jane walking down the hallway towards them

Jane: we were just coming to get you guys ( she says when the meet each other)

Cynthia: well not me ,I was planning to wait for her by the stairs to go up and get you guys, I cannot start climbing to the next floor to call science students ( she points at Temi and Samuel) and then to the next floor to call out art student ( she points to Michael) that’s just stress mahn

Temi: yen yen yen ( he teases shaking his head from side to side) abegi

Cynthia:if I slap you( she playfully raise her hand at him and he flinches laughing)

Micheal: can we be going abeg we’ve wasted enough time ( they start walking again)

Temi:mahn I’m so hungry

Samuel:I thought you told me you had heavy breakfast,you guys should have seen this guy in the morning, was just full everywhere ,he said he must’ve eaten up to a basket of Irish ( he exaggerates)

Temi: ehn but it has finished from my stomach now

Samuel: Temi that was just like a hour ago

Cynthia: did you forget that you have a glutton for a friend ( they laugh)

Temi: haha very funny ( he says sarcastically)

Cynthia: gerrout

They get to the outdoor canteen (the place is surrounded with a lot of beautiful trees with different types of flowers all the table and benches are wooden carved tables and benches, the tables are bid and round and the benches go around it too ,it’s a beautiful work of art) after buying their food or snacks they go to their regular table very close to the trees by the fence

Cynthia: Nile might not work out for me ( she says in a serious tone and they all look at her with concern)

Jane : why not

Cynthia: honestly things aren’t really going so smooth at home , Becky’s sickness isn’t getting better , initially I know my parents had the money but I think they had to take from it to handle some things and even tho they won’t tell me ,I know there’s a chance I might not go( she fakes a smile after talking)

Jane: oh Cynthia I’m so sorry

Michael: hey let’s not jump into conclusions yet , like you said “ you don’t think” right? That means you’re not sure ,so let’s not conclude

Cynthia: ( she laughs) abeg ohh let the mood not drop oo..I just wanted to tell you guys since it's our plan,i don't want to hide anything that’s it ,so please cam we change the topic and enjoy our food ( Samuel looks like he wants to say something but is hesitant but nobody notices)

Temi:yes let’s change the topic ( he clears his throat….)I heard jamb results will be out in two weeks

Micheal: we are you serious ( his eyes widen)

Cynthia: why are you scared ( she asks Michael)

Michael: yes nah I was sick when I wrote jamb only God knows what will happen

Jane : did you forget that you have the brain of a machine? ..even if you write an exam at your dying minute you will pass ...I remember when we were writing maths promotion exam to ss3 that time that he came to school 20 minutes to the end of the paper

Temi:yeah that he still came out among the top 10 in his result

Micheal: we all came out among the top 10 na

Cynthia: but your own did not make sense…we wrote for 2½ hours,you wrote for 20 minutes

Temi: ( gasps) did your parents bribe the school

Jane : it’s true ,we forgot that he’s filthy rich( she lightly punches him)

Micheal: abeg oh before somebody will hear you guys now and think that’s what happened stop oo( they laugh) I just have an amazing iq( he brags dusting his shoulder)

Temi: de play( they burst into laughter….samuel just laughs along but doesn’t say anything)

Fade…………………

THE NEXT DAY

Micheal,Temi and Samuel are standing in front of Jane and Cynthia’s class waiting for them while other students walk hurriedly to the assembly hall

Temi: if you guys make me serve punishment ba

Jane: don’t worry we’ll serve it together ( she says as she and Cynthia join them)

Samuel: let’s go( he says in haste and they all quickly walk to the hall and take their seats at the back row which is the last row of vacant seats )

Cynthia: at least we didn’t come so late that we’d have to stand

Mr Jonah: ( the school principal is talking on the stage)…..so especially ss3 students,you guys are almost not our students again ( he laughs ) you all need to buckle up, your exam is just around the corner,this is your time to study hard ,don’t get distracted by little things , dating ( the students murmur)

Jane: this is the only thing this buffalo ever talks about ( they laugh)

Mr Jonah: yes yes you are all murmuring now ,you think we don’t know , we’ve passed through all this and so we are just telling you so that you will not make certain mistakes ,your parents are really trying oo,you think it’s easy to come to a school like think

Samuel: no but yet you steal our money

Mr Jonah: no its not,so you need to make your parents proud,make your teachers proud ,make your principal proud and even make your school proud

Cynthia: ( looks at some stu swallow for three days ( they laugh)

Jane : good one( thy fist bump)

Micheal: you know that anonymous company that he said donated 6 million to here and the other two school branches ba?

Temi: ehn that they split it two two

Micheal: well that was a lie , it was actually 10 they donated

Jane : it’s a lie( they’re eyes all widen In shock)

Michael: I know right ,I couldn’t believe it when I heard it too

Samuel: where did you hear it

Micheal:my dad is friends with the company’s chief executive,so he was just asking me about it recently,he was like did the school receive the 10 million donation for renovations? And I was like no it was 6

Samuel: won’t that get Mr Jonah in some kind of trouble

Micheal: I don’t think so ..my dad didn’t take what I said serious,he said I probably misheard

Temi: damn….omo baba no try oo…he commot a whole 4m guy

Michael: abeg ooo…let this news die here oo don’t tell anybody

Jane: yeah it’ll be better to avoid wahala

Cynthia: Kai all of them from that their family are just annoying, especially that Michael’s babe( they laugh except Micheal)

Micheal: don’t start

Temi: but guy a whole principals daughter is following you like fly in the name of love ,how does it feel

Samuel: you guys will.look good together ( they laugh)

Jane : eeww I don’t even want to imagine it..,then we’ll have to talk to her ( she shivers in disgust) Michael if you ever make that decision to follow her ,abeg unfriend me first( they laugh……one of their teachers collects the mic from Mr Jonah and climbs the stage)

Teacher: everyone rise for the national pledge ( they recite the pledge and the assembly ends)

As that walk out of the hall to go to class Samantha runs up to them

Samantha: hi guys( she smiles as she halts in front of them )

Jane : ( rolls her eyes and the rest of them just put on an obviously fake smile at Samantha) hey

Samantha: my birthday is on Saturday, and I want you guys to come to my party ( her gaze fixed on Michael alone as if she is mainly referring to him)

Cynthia: what a invite

Samuel: your throwing parties and you father is giving us speeches on avoid distractions during this exam period

Temi: point( he agrees with Samuel)

Samantha : oh come on it’s just one day and I’m sure this is not the type of distraction daddy was talking about

Michael: give us a good reason why we should come

Samantha: because it’s my party and I’m personally inviting you ( her gaze still fixed on Michael)

Michael: ( he scoffs) we’ll think about it( they walk past her)

Samantha: I’ll take that as a yes( she says before going her own way)

Jane: God I hate that girl

Samuel: hate is a strong word

Jane : well it’s not strong enough

Cynthia: and I hate the fact that we can’t do anything to her because her father is the principal, remember how she got her father to expel Josephine because she told her that her wrist watch was fake Gucci

Samuel: and we all knew it was fake

Temi: fact

Jane : so we’re going ba

Temi: going where?

Jane : to her party na, Michael did say we’ll think about it

Michael: and why should we go

Jane: come on it’ll be a good excuse to dig up some dirty family secrets ( she smiles enthusiastically)

Cynthia: yeess ,we can get her drunk and then make her spill ( she smirks evilly as she rubs her palms together)

Temi: heck no, I don’t think we should go

Samuel: I double that thought ( that stop in front of Jane and Cynthia’s class)

Cynthia: come on ,it’s not like we have anything to do that Saturday

Samuel: study

Temi: yes that

Jane : Temi when people are talking about studying don’t talk( they laugh)

Cynthia: okay so we understand that Samuel has strict parents who won’t let his go out during exam period but the rest of us can make it

Cynthia: and if it makes you feel any better,we barely see you as a guy

Temi: and how would that make me feel better ( a teacher enters the class)

Cynthia: byyeee( she and Jane go into the class and the boys start going up the stairs)

Samuel: Samantha is going to blow when she realizes that you’re not there ,I mean we all know you’re the reason she invited us in the first place

Michael : that one is her business ( they reach the commercial floor)

Temi : what did they mean by they barely see me as a guy ( he says still thinking)

Michael: (chuckles and shakes his head) don’t ever try to understand what girl say at times,it can hurt your brain ( he pats Temi’s shoulder) later( he goes up the stairs to his own floor)

Temi: but Samuel….

Samuel: don’t even ask me( he stars walking to class
