I had no idea how long I sat there, holding his hand. It felt like an eternity until I suddenly heard voices outside the door. I scrambled to my feet and hurried to find a dark corner to hide in. Nearby was a large shelf filled with jars and other items, and I managed to squeeze behind it. Peering cautiously around the edge, I could see the door and anyone who might be coming through.
“You can’t go in there!” Liana’s voice rang out.
The door swung open, and both Liana and Sebastian entered. Liana grabbed Sebastian’s arm, trying to restrain him, but he easily overpowered her. He moved toward the fabric covering Cole, yanking it aside to reveal him lying there, still pale and weak. Sebastian scanned the room before turning his intense gaze on Liana.
“Where is she?” he demanded.
