Liana flushed a deep red. I wasn’t sure if she was embarrassed by the question, if she had hoped to keep her feelings private, or if she feared their love might not be accepted. Perhaps she simply wasn’t ready to admit it.
“No!” she said suddenly, shaking her head.
“You don’t love him?” I asked.
“I... I don’t even know what love is,” she said, brushing a strand of brown hair behind her ear.
“So, you do like him?”
She stared at the ground for a moment before looking up at me. She nodded slowly. “Something happened between us after Cole disappeared. Something changed... I’m not sure why or how, but suddenly, I saw him differently. He became more than just my brother’s best friend. He was there to comfort me when I thought I had lost my brother too.”
