Who I am

Alice's stomach suddenly growled. The sound filled the quiet room. Her eyes widened in embarrassment, and Liam looked at her for a moment before realization crossed his face. She hadn't eaten. Not since he found her beneath the apple tree. "Wait here," he said softly. Before Alice could respond, he walked toward the kitchen. She listened to his footsteps disappear into the cottage, still trying to understand everything that had happened. A few moments later, Liam returned carrying a warm bowl. The moment the scent reached her, Alice froze. Red r****h soup. Her nose recognized it before her mind could. Her mouth watered instantly. Liam noticed her expression and couldn't stop the small chuckle that escaped him. For a moment, he forgot everything else. The fear. The questions. The years he spent missing her. He had missed seeing that look on her face. "Here," he said, handing her the bowl. "Thank you," Alice whispered. She didn't need to be told twice. She quickly began eating, the warmth of the soup spreading through her body. When she looked up and noticed Liam watching her, she suddenly became aware of herself. Her cheeks turned slightly pink. She quickly coughed and looked away. Liam smiled quietly and handed her a glass of water. After she drank, he turned around, ready to leave. "Liam." He stopped. Alice looked down at her hands, gathering the courage to ask the question that had been sitting in her heart since she woke up. "Who am I?" The room became silent. For a moment, Liam didn't know what to say. There were so many things he wanted to tell her. The truth. Her family. Her past. The life she had forgotten. But he knew it was too much. Not yet. "You are Alice Vale." Her eyes lifted to his. "Alice Vale..." she repeated. Liam nodded. He wanted to tell her she was the first-born daughter of the Vale Empire. That she was more important than she could imagine. That her disappearance had changed everything. But he swallowed the words. "That's enough for today," he said gently. "You need to rest." Alice watched him leave, holding onto the only piece of herself she had found. Her name. Alice Vale. Liam's POV The door of the cottage closed quietly behind him. For a moment, Liam stood outside, staring at the dark sky. The rain continued to fall. Not ordinary rain. The Black Rain. A warning from the old magic of Elarion Vale. Beside him, Silver sat silently, his silver fur glowing faintly under the dark storm clouds. Liam looked down at him. "She doesn't remember." Silver's ears lowered slightly. The wolf let out a quiet sound, almost like he understood the pain behind those words. "I spent so long searching for her," Liam whispered. "And now that she's finally here... she looks at me like I'm a stranger." Silver stepped closer. His golden eyes watched Liam carefully. "I know," Liam said softly. "Her heart remembers. I saw it when she looked at you... when she touched the pendant." Silver glanced toward the cottage window. The wolf could not speak like a person, but Liam had always understood him. They had been connected since Liam was young. "Do you think her memories will return?" Silver looked back at him. After a moment, he walked toward the edge of the forest and looked at the falling black rain. Liam followed his gaze. "Eight days..." He clenched his fist. "The Black Rain will last for eight days. We are trapped here until it ends." Silver growled softly. "I know," Liam replied. His eyes moved back toward the cottage. "But what worries me is not the storm." He looked at the window where Alice rested. "It's what happens after." Silver turned toward him. Liam lowered his voice. "If the others find out she has returned before she remembers who she is..." He stopped. He didn't need to finish the sentence. Silver already knew. The Black Wolf Princess had returned. And the world would not remain quiet. "I need to protect her," Liam said. Silver walked closer and gently nudged Liam's hand. A small reminder. A promise. Liam looked down at him and smiled faintly. "You're right." He looked back at the cottage. "She may not remember me yet..." "But I'll help her remember."
