I endured talking to my mother until an officer announced that my time was over. I needed to leave.
"Thank you for coming," she said, tears pooling in her eyes. Her hand was squeezing mine as if she didn't want to let me go.
I tried to smile at her but I knew it would come out awkward.
"Please tell me you'll come back," she said in a pleading voice.
"I... I'll try," I whispered.
She hugged me one last time and I just let her. My whole body was still while her arms wrapped around me. I wanted to hug her too but my limbs were limp and lifeless.
"That's enough," I heard the officer sternly say. I didn't know why I felt relieved now that I am free from my mother's grasp. Perhaps she was hugging me too tight. I didn't want to think much about it. There's just a lot going on inside my hea
