“Come with me,” Alejandra sprang to her feet and showed Chase to a dusty old grandfather clock nestling in a corner. It was so unremarkable that he hadn’t even noticed it before – it was more the sort of thing that would be found languishing in just about any old junk shop, rather than the fantastical wonderland that was Meridian. The tatty old clock’s true purpose became apparent, the moment that Alejandra opened its casing to reveal a hidden staircase that vanished off down into darkness. She trotted off down the narrow steps without hesitation. “Well, come on, then,” she called back to him. “What are you waiting for?
