I stood frozen, my hand still on the doorknob, Caleb's threat hanging heavy in the air. My babies' cries tore at my heart, each wail like a physical blow.
'We can't leave them,' Vega whimpered in my mind.
"I know," I whispered, tears streaming down my face. "But we can't stay either."
Caleb's smirk widened as he watched my internal struggle. "Having second thoughts, love?"
I turned to face him, my jaw clenched. "You can't keep us here forever, Caleb. This isn't right, and deep down, you know it."
He laughed, the sound bitter and hollow. "Right? Wrong? Those are just words, Sasha. What matters is power, and now I have it."
I shook my head, desperately searching for a way to reach him. "Why are you doing this, Caleb. Why are you always like this."
