Dawn’s POV
I heard them before I saw them, the heavy footsteps on dry leaves, and the sounds of bodies moving through the forest in loud disorganized patrolling lines. When I reached the final line of trees separating Emberblade from the woods, I finally saw them clearly. There were dozens of Seekers surrounding the borders of Emberblade, each of them armed and alert, their formation spread out wide enough to block every escape path.
I stood frozen because nothing Vincent had told me had prepared me for a scene this overwhelming. He had said they were surrounded, but he never explained how horrible the situation was in reality. As I watched them move and heard their sharp whistles to one another, I knew that if they attacked, they would wipe out Emberblade completely before help arrived.
