Wayne’s POV We sat outside the cabin long after the worst of the morning had passed, and although the air was calm, my body still held the memory of Dawn’s pain, as though it had etched itself beneath my skin and refused to let go. I kept my attention fixed on the door behind me, listening not with my ears but with something more instinctive, waiting for any sign that her rest had turned uneasy again. Sarah was the first to break the silence, her voice careful, as if she feared even sound might disturb Dawn through the walls. “Is she truly all right?” she asked. “That shift was… different.” “She’ll…recover,” I answered, though the weight in my chest made the words come slower than usual. “The shift drained her badly, but she will be ok. Her body is adjusting. It just needs time.”
