DAWN’S POV The breakfast was simple but warm enough to settle my hunger. I sat at the wooden table, cutting through the last piece of omelette while the stack of pancakes beside it slowly cooled. The house was quiet, the kind of quiet that made me have time to eat and think. I chewed slowly, trying to distract myself with the taste of butter and syrup, when the front door opened softly.
