Sawyer POV “Yes,” Fred confirmed. “While the talk of change and support of my daughter as a female Alpha is also important, we have a more pressing task at hand, which is discussing the cause of all the humans being murdered and what to do about it. Shall we begin?” He asked, pulling out his notepad. I watched Lucy follow his lead as we all waited for someone to talk. “Based on the reports we have been receiving,” Killian began, “the bodies of the murdered humans have been severely mutilated, which is what is prompting the belief that wolves are behind the attacks. I have already talked to my pack and it does not seem like any of them are guilty of just going out and killing random humans for sport. We are under the belief that it is rogues, or at least wolves that aren’t from our pack.” He stated. The other alphas all nodded their agreement to Killian’s statement but did not explicitly speak up themselves. “So, what I am gathering is that the consensus seems to be that rogues are most likely behind the killings?” Lucy interjected; her father smiling as she took the initiative to speak up. “Why is everyone so sure of this fact?” “Well, we know for sure that it is not any of our pack members. Who else could it be? Besides, the Elder Council also believes rogues are behind the attacks, and they know a lot more than us Alpha’s do, right?” Alpha Henry added. I wanted to growl at him for making this statement, knowing that it would upset Lucy. I was proud of her though-she kept her cool except for a slight frown. “The council does not know everything, though they are wise,” Fred spoke up before Lucy could speak her mind. “We will keep their advice in mind, but we need to make absolutely sure that the wolves doing the killing are not from anyone’s pack. We can’t just go attacking rogues for no reason.” “But they are attacking humans for no reason!” Beta Milo exclaimed, standing up as he spoke. “Since when are rogue wolves more valuable than the lives of humans?! Humans we have sworn to protect, rogues are exiled wolves and criminals. We need to reevaluate our priorities here.” I could feel Lucy’s anger growing through the mate bond as Milo spoke. She wanted to speak up for the rogues by saying that they weren’t all bad, but knew that would only serve to discredit her, so she boiled in silent anger. Subtly, so no one else would see, I reached over and squeezed her knee with my hand before standing and speaking. “We also need to keep in mind that not all rogues are rogues because they did something bad and then were exiled from their packs. Some ran away from corrupt pack leaders, were orphans with no other home, or simply wolves that challenged the council. We can’t paint them all with the same brush, nor can we assume that all wolves who are loyal to packs are good people. We need to dive deeper into this issue in order to get to the bottom of it,” I said with confidence. Lucy smiled at me appreciatively as I sat back down. “And just who exactly are you?” Alpha James asked with annoyance. “I am Sawyer, brother to Alpha Sean of Crystal Moon Pack. I have just as much of a right to be here as anyone else does.” I said, crossing my arms and turning to look at him. All the Lunas in attendance, including his own, turned to glare at him. “So if you are here with the Crystal Moon Pack, why are you seated with Red Moon’s leadership? You are not any better than the rest of us, so you should be seated by your brother,” James continued. What was this dude’s problem? He had seemed so supportive of Lucy, but now he was being a huge d**k for no reason. “Yes, do tell us who you are, son.” The voice came from behind us, in the doorway. Everyone immediately froze and turned to see who had walked in. It was Jones, one of the members of the Elder Council. He was smirking victoriously, meaning that the council was up to no good. He was also looking back and forth between Lucy and me with a knowing look on his face. I could feel Lucy's immediate worry through our bond. Oh s**t. Red said, whimpering slightly, and I couldn’t help but agree with him.
