Chapter 12Karen changed the music. A poor choice as far as Oscar was concerned, the racket distracted him. He missed the drums and flutes of his youth. The car hummed down the road. Oscar opened his window a crack. The air had cooled. He relished the dryness. Dark now, a dull glow grew on the southern horizon. It brightened past the next mountain pass, and over the top, the lights of Las Vegas spread across the valley. When he’d come this way before with Jack on horseback, the stars much brighter then, rivers of them filled the sky. Now Oscar could only see a few.
