Chapter 3

War of the Wives…. “Urghhh! I can’t wait to take a shower and go to bed. Business meetings with dad are always brutal.” Leo said this to his sister over the phone. He had just gotten home from a long day at the office and was about to climb upstairs to his room when he heard a voice he hadn’t heard in a long time. It was still sultry, sexy but had a mocking tint to it. “How’s my brave lion doing?” Leo shook his head to be sure he was dreaming when he turned and saw his ex-wife, Vivian. What the hell was she doing in his house? His body hardened with repulsion and he said in a death cold voice, “What are you doing here and who the hell allowed you into this house? Sophia! Sophia!” Sophia ran out of her room in panic. Leo had never screamed her name like that and she got scared that something bad was happening. When she saw Leo, she was taken aback by the hard look on his face. He turned his anger towards her and said, “I don’t allow junkies and cheaters into my house so what the hell is she doing here?” “I have the same question, Leo. I didn’t even know there was an ex-wife and kid until they showed up. This nasty woman right there pushed me and entered the house. I will not reduce myself to fighting a fellow woman because of a man so you deal with your problem. Besides, if the boy is your son, then he deserves to see his father.” Sophia said calmly, trying to keep her anger in check. How dare Leo try to pin this on her when she called him numerous times but he didn’t pick up? “What if she has a weapon? What if she steals something? And it’s no freaking business of yours if the boy deserves to see me or not.” He said it angrily to Sophia, losing his cool at the situation and the stress from the day but taking out his anger on her. “You will not speak to me that way, Leonardo Black because I will not entertain any freaking disrespect. I will never…” She was interrupted by Vivian, who rudely said, “Hey you! Enough with all the noise making. I only came here to drop Adrian off with his father because I wanted to be free from that burden. You will have to take care of him and I won’t have you do that with all this whining, nagging and…Urgghhh!” Vivian stopped mid sentence and held her cheek when a hard smack came down on her cheek from Sophia. “I will slap you again if it means you develop senses. Also, I will not have you continue to disrespect me in my own home. Who the hell do you think you are, talking to me that way? If you want to leave the boy, go ahead, Any woman who sees her own child as a burden is not fit to be called a mother. Now that that has been said, I want you to get the hell out of my house. Now!” Sophia said angrily, remembering how her own mother left her with her abusive father at a young age. Something from Sophia’s expression must have scared and annoyed Vivian, but she said “b*tch” and started taking backward steps, then went out the door, entered her car and drove away, leaving Adrian behind. Leo didn’t say anything about the exchange but he was so full of pride for the way Sophia stood up for herself. He knew from the first day she called him a freaking lunatic that she was naturally feisty and didn't tolerate being talked down to, even if she sometimes kept quiet to avoid conflict. He liked that about her a lot. He turned to her and said, “I am very sorry for taking my anger out on you, Sophia. It was totally uncalled for and you do not deserve that.” Then he made his way upstairs, deciding to handle the issue of Adrian staying, another time. He was too tired at that moment. **** Sophia stood her ground about Adrian and he started staying with them. Anyone with eyes could see that the gorgeous six year old boy was Leonardo Black’s son, as he looked like the younger version of his father. Sophia started taking care of Adrian and she promised herself that even though his real mother had abandoned him, she would love him and take care of him as a mother would. She knew what it was like to have an absent parent and she didn’t want Adrian to know that pain too. Leonardo rushed into the house before 7 because since Adrian arrived, Sophia had made him come home early so they would have dinner together as a family; she said she was doing it for Adrian. Although he grumbled to her when she called to remind him about dinner, he secretly liked it and looked forward to it as Sophia cooked by herself. Her cooking was very delicious, and eating with her and Adrian made him feel the warmth of family. He liked that a lot. **** Sophia stepped out of her mercedez benz and walked into her office building. She delightedly replied to the hellos and pleasant greetings from her staff. On her way to her office, she marveled at how her business had transformed from a failing business to a stable and steadily rising business in just months after her wedding to Leo. At Least he was keeping his own end of the bargain. Immediately she stepped out of the elevator on her office floor, she saw Chloe pacing, looking worried. She rushed over to Sophia when she saw her come in. “”Uhmmm, Soph, I don't know how to tell you this. Really, he just waltzed in and made his way to your office, claiming that he is kin and therefore can chill in your office. I tried calling you but it went straight to your voicemail.” Chloe said frantically Sophia rubbed Chloe’s arm and said “Chloe, you are rambling, I can barely understand you. Who are you going on about? Who is in my office?” Chloe looked at her quietly and said quietly, “Your father.” Chloe watched as the color drained from Sophia’s face and she started sweating even though the air conditioners were on. “What did you say?” She turned and started walking numbly to her office. She didn’t believe he was there until she entered her office and saw him sitting on her chair. He saw her and smiled menacingly and lots of memories, all not good, flashed before Sophia’s face. She still remembered her mother’s screams from her father’s punches. Her father was a very abusive man, which was the main reason her mother left with her. He had tried to get her to come back during her high school days, but she refused. Consequently, they were estranged, and she harbored a lot of hatred for him. She entered her office and settled into a relaxed position on her chair, placed his legs on her table and crossed them, then crossed his hands behind his head relaxingly, then said, “Soph baby, I see the contract with Leo boy paid off. You are using my money well, and you haven’t gone bankrupt thanks to me.” Sophia looked at him with a bewildered expression mixed with strong hatred. First of all, she really hated his nickname for her, Soph Baby, and secondly, how did he know about the contract with Leonardo? What does he mean by using his money well? Was her father the one funding her business?
