Shadows Converge Part 3

279 Words
Alone again, the silence pressed in. Lara’s hands trembled as she tore open Elara’s packet. Inside was a single, aged page—fragile and yellowed with time. A diary entry. The ink was faded, but still legible: “The moon births the beast. Only blood reveals the truth.” Lara stared at it, her pulse quickening. “Whose blood?” she whispered. A twig snapped nearby. She spun around. Nothing. But the feeling returned. She wasn’t alone. Her phone buzzed again. Mara. Be careful. Kadir’s pack is hunting for you. Meet me at the old windmill. The windmill. Lara’s stomach tightened. She knew that place—abandoned, isolated, sitting on the outskirts of town like a forgotten memory. A risk. But also— Answers. She moved. Faster this time. The forest seemed to close in as she ran, shadows stretching unnaturally long beneath the rising moon. And then— She saw it. The windmill’s silhouette loomed ahead, its broken blades creaking faintly in the night air. A figure stepped out from the shadows. “Lara.” Riley. Lara slowed, breathless. “What are you doing here?” Riley glanced over his shoulder, tension etched into every movement. “Mara’s inside,” he said quickly. “But Kadir’s pack… they’re close.” Lara’s chest tightened. “Riley,” she said, her voice urgent, “who is the blue-eyed werewolf?” Riley hesitated. For a moment, his expression hardened—like he was about to say something he shouldn’t. Then he shook his head. “Inside,” he said. “Mara will explain.” The windmill door creaked open behind them. And whatever waited inside— Was about to change everything.
