Buildings were made of adobe-like material, like many of the buildings in Southland, but these were the same color as the desert around them -- a sandy, orange-yellow, not the white and red of Southland’s adobe. Where could they get clay, so deep in the desert? Southland's clay came from the banks of the Smoke River or, sometimes, the Three Sisters. There were no rivers in the desert.
