I nervously arrived at the museum, dreading the thought of working while pregnant. As I was getting ready, Mrs. Claire walked in and immediately demanded to know how I was feeling. "I'm fine, thank you," I said, trying to sound upbeat. Mrs. Claire scowled. "Well, don't let your condition affect your work. We can't have any mistakes or accidents on the job." I swallowed hard, feeling like I was walking on eggshells around her. "And don't forget to call me Mrs. Claire," she added sharply. "We are not friends, we are colleagues." I nodded, feeling a knot form in my stomach. This was going to be a long day. ....... ....... As I started my shift, I was constantly on edge, afraid to make any missteps. Mrs. Claire watched my every move like a hawk, and I could feel her disapproving glare burning into the back of my head. The tourists started to arrive, and I put on a fake smile, trying to appear confident. But as I started to talk about the art, I was interrupted by a woman who asked about the story behind a painting. "Excuse me, can you tell us the story behind this painting?" she asked, pointing to a portrait of a woman with a mysterious smile. "That's the Mona Lisa," I replied, trying to sound pleasant. "It's believed to be a portrait of a wealthy woman, although some people believe there's a hidden message in her smile." The woman looked disappointed, and I could feel Mrs. Claire's disapproving gaze boring into me. "You really should know the official story, Emily," Mrs. Claire said coldly. "We can't have our tour guides spreading false information." I felt my face flush with embarrassment as the tourists looked at me skeptically. I wanted to disappear. As the day went on, Mrs. Claire continued to criticize and belittle me at every turn. I felt like I couldn't do anything right, and the tourists started to notice my anxiety. At one point, I was showing a group of tourists a painting of a landscape when one man asked, "Do you think it would look better in my living room or my dining room?" I forced a smile. "I'm not sure, sir. But I'm sure it would look great hanging over your ego." The tourists laughed, but I could feel Mrs. Claire's icy glare burning into me. I knew I was in trouble. At the end of the tour, I was starving and in desperate need of a break from my job at the museum. So, I dashed to a nearby coffee shop, hoping to grab a quick bite to eat. As I sat down, exhausted from the morning tours, I caught sight of a menu and ordered a sandwich and a latte. While waiting for my order, I couldn't shake off the overwhelming feeling of impending motherhood that had taken over me. Suddenly, a young man walked in and headed straight to the counter. I knew I recognized him from somewhere, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. As I took a bite of my sandwich, my phone buzzed with a text from my obnoxious landlord, reminding me of the upcoming rent payment. Frustrated, I let out a deep sigh, trying to push aside my financial struggles. "Cheer up, miss," a barista with a wide smile said, interrupting my thoughts. "I hope this latte can brighten up your day." I smiled gratefully, taking a sip and feeling the warmth spread through my body. As I enjoyed my latte, I suddenly remembered where I had seen the young man before. "Oh, my goodness," I muttered under my breath. "That was him." "Who?" the barista asked curiously. "The father of my baby," I replied, feeling a lump form in my throat. The barista's face dropped in shock. "Who is he? Did he take responsibility?" "I don't even know how to contact him," I replied, feeling helpless. "Don't worry, things have a way of working out," the barista reassured me. As I sipped my latte, my mind drifted back to that fateful night. I could still feel his hands on my waist, the music thumping in my ears as we danced together. And then, the sudden rush of heat as his lips met mine. Flashback: Emily and the mysterious man moved together on the dance floor, their bodies in perfect sync. As the music grew louder, he pulled her closer, their lips meeting in a fiery kiss. Emily felt a surge of electricity run through her body, and for a moment, nothing else mattered. End of Flashback I snapped back to reality, my heart racing as I realized the implications of what had just happened. The father of my child was here, in the same coffee shop as me. I knew I had to confront him, to demand answers, but how could I do it without making a scene? I finished my lunch and thanked the barista for his kindness before making my way back to the museum. Mrs. Claire was waiting for me, her eyes cold as she glared at me. "You're late," she snapped. "I'm sorry, I had to take a break," I replied, trying to keep my voice calm. "Well, don't make a habit of it," she warned. "We have a lot of work to do, and I don't have time for your personal problems." I felt my anger rising at her callousness. Didn't she realize how difficult my life was right now? But I bit my tongue, knowing that I needed this job more than ever. As I settled back into my routine, I couldn't help but wonder what the future held. Would I ever find out the identity of the father? Would he take responsibility for his actions? Or was I doomed to raise this child alone, with nothing but my own strength to guide me? Only time would tell.
