CHAPTER 3: Best Friend Betrayal

1044 Words
*Audrey* So this is what heartbreak feels like. I had just found my mate, but I was quickly rejected. I sniffled hard and used my fingers to wipe away my tears, trying to calm my emotions. Looking up, I saw the gazes of everyone staring at me, some with pity, while others with scorn and great satisfaction. I looked for Claire through the crowd of people and I saw her still standing in the same position she stood earlier, her eyes relatively calm, which came as a surprise to me because I was expecting to see a worried expression on her face. "Claire." I called out to her to come and help me up, but she turned her face, like she no longer recognized me. I was shaken by her sudden reaction, but I never understood what she meant. With a shaking voice, I still called out to her. "Claire… Claire, please help me up." This time she turned her face back at me and walked towards my direction. I became a bit relieved inside my heart knowing someone still cared for me, and tried to calm my emotions, thinking she was coming to me. But instead of helping me up as I thought, Claire walked right past me to where John was and stood by his side. I widened my eyes in shock, my already seemingly calmed body began trembling again. I looked at Claire and all I could see was a disgusted expression on her face, her lips curved up in a sneer. "Claire what, what are you doing?" "What does it look like I'm doing? John said you are not his type and already rejected you, so what are you still doing here? Get up and leave already, you're disrupting the party, or do you want John to call the security and kick you out? That might be even more embarrassing." I tried to control my emotions, but I could not, my tears came rushing through again, even much harder this time. "Claire, why are you doing this? We are best friends." "Best friend," she snorted and walked closer to me, bending her head down to my ears, she spoke in a low voice only both of us could hear. "Why would I become best friends with a low-brained b***h like you, the only reason I've endured your foolishness and stupidity all those time was because of my mom. I was never your best friend, so leave, or I'll ask the security to throw you out. Why do I even bother wasting my breath on trash like you?" She hissed at me and walked back to where John was. First, I never expected my mate to reject me, especially not in front of so many people, and now even my own best friend, right from childhood, betrayed me. That's the worst that could still happen. Today seems to be my darkest moment. I'm a failure and disappointment, I know I am. Wiping off my tears once more, I steadily and gradually stood up from the ground, only to slip back and fall again, crying even harder than before, but I could not allow them to continue making mockery of me, so I tried to stand up again, successfully this time. I stood up straight, but my whole body was still trembling. Glancing up, I gazed at John, but his face was natural, like he wasn't even involved in what had just happened. Why was I the only one feeling the pain? Wasn't both sides supposed to weaken due to the rejection? Why was I the only one suffering? But I do not have the strength to think about that. I turned my face to Claire's, a smug grin was casually plastered on her face, and I almost broke down again, but I stopped myself. Staring at the scorns and sneering faces of almost everyone at the party, I knew I could not remain there, so I turned and ran out of the house. "Claire" I can't believe the moon goddess would pair up this little b***h and John as mate. Was she blind? How dare she join the most perfect man I've ever seen, with this low-brained b***h. Why does this b***h always get the good things easily, while I have to suffer for it? I've always hated Audrey, right from when we were little. She always got what she wanted easily; the attention of others, and the pity of being an orphan. What's so special about her being an orphan that makes everyone like her? Everytime it's always Audrey this or Audrey that. Even my mom always compares her stupid show-off character to mine. She's nothing but a two-faced, cunning b***h, always using her pretty face to attract pity and attention from others. But this time, she got what she deserved, karma has finally delivered justice to me. I'm happy John got to see her for what she was and rejected her instantly. 'You have already been rejected b***h, why force yourself on someone that doesn't like you?' I said in my thoughts. I could hear the whispers of others saying words against me after I lashed out at her earlier, but I don't see anything wrong with what I said, she has already been rejected, so why is she still here? Did she really think that her cunning tricks of using her pretty face, trying to gain pity, would work on John? Look at her, using her fake tears and ugly cries to gain the pity of others, insolent fool, I really wish I could go there and drag her out of this place myself. But not this time b***h, your days of getting everything you wanted have finally come to an end, Audrey. Everyone here has seen you for what you truly are, a cunning b***h. When everyone leaves here tonight, they will definitely speak ill about you, then I'll see what face you have to keep in the keep. This time I won't allow you or anything else to get in the way of John and I, not even your stupid mate bond. John is mine and mine alone, and there's nothing you can do to change that, not even the moon goddess can come between us.
