He heard another voice in the background and figured the ‘we’ was Jesse.
“I guess we need to add maid service to our list.” With a hand on his hip, he looked around, trying to decide what to do with the unknown assailant and the extra vehicle.
“Yep. On the list. In the meantime, tell us what happened. I’m putting you on speaker.”
William did. There was something… settling, he thought, about having another person to be honest with, to have his back. It had been a while since that was part of his life.
“No way was your guy a Fed. They might contract to take persons of interest into custody, and the dirty ones would eliminate problems, but self-termination isn’t their standard procedure if they’re caught,” Jesse said.
“That’s why I’m thinking private.”
“Piss off anyone?”
