The following morning, Jesse paused in reversing out of the garage so Piper could pick up the newspaper. Back inside the SUV, she read the headline above the fold on the front page. Red Dragon Member, Dead.
“Oh, s**t,” she said, then read aloud, “Van Lu Pham, alleged member of the Vietnamese gang, Red Dragon, was found dead in his cell at the Portland Police Department after being arrested for the attempted murder of Dr. and Dr. Chen, famed scientists for zero waste recycling. It is unclear at this time the tie between the Dr. Chens and Pham.”
Jesse stopped at a red light. “Suicide.”
