22 After a solid six hours of sleep and his convoluted trek to his headquarters that would make it extremely difficult for someone to follow him, William stood, mug in hand, in front of the coffee machine at 7:59 AM. Moments after the machine clicked on and he breathed deep the scent of caffeine, the front door chimed. The click of heels on the tiled hallway preceded Piper into the office. “Morning,” he said, glancing at her over his shoulder. She tugged off her sunglasses, then peered at him. “Hm… morning,” she said, then continued to her desk. He turned to watch her over his other shoulder.
