She stepped toward me, her hands balled into fists at her sides. "I’m so caught up in my feelings—in the mess of everything that's happening with Nicholas and the fact that you’re constantly suffocating me—that I don't even know what I'm doing anymore! I went there because I needed to feel nothing! I needed to drown out the sound of my own head!" ​I went completely still. The words "I slipped up" felt like a sentence.
