Meanwhile at the house Zuba kept chatting with the maids and getting to know the family better. She was told her Mr and Mrs harper acted like rabbits on heat, It was strange that they only had one child with the the s*x they had around the house. She also found out how they had moved to africa and how good they treated there staff and even paid fees for some of there children that did well in school. “But be careful with Mrs Harper, one of them warned. “She is in a good mood one day and the next day she just snaps. Lay low and out of her way, do as she says and you will keep your job they advised. Zuba took the advice to heart and made sure to steer clear of Mrs. Harper whenever possible, always treading lightly around her. Despite the warnings, Zuba found herself growing closer to the Harper family with each passing day. She bonded with their son over shared interests and helped Mrs. Harper organize various events at the house. The next morning, Zuba woke up early to the sound of birds chirping outside her window. She dressed quickly in her uniform and made her way to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for the family. Mrs. Harper entered the kitchen just as Zuba was putting the finishing touches on a plate of fresh fruit. "Good morning, Mrs. Harper," Zuba greeted her with a warm smile. Mrs. Harper glanced at the breakfast spread and nodded in approval. "Not bad, Zuba. I hope you can keep this up." “Thank you’ she beamed as she continued to cook food and serve the family breakfast A few days later, while preparing for a lavish dinner party, Zuba found herself alone in the kitchen with Mrs. Harper. As shechopped vegetables, Mrs. Harper suddenly turned to her with a piercing gaze. "Zuba, isn't it?" Mrs. Harper's tone was icy. Asking her name as though it was the first time she was meeting her. "Yes, ma'am," Zuba replied, trying to keep her composure as she didnt understand the change in tone of her boss, but she silently remembered the warns she got from the other ladies and wait for her boss to speak as she chopped away "I've been observing you closely," Mrs. Harper continued, making Zuba's heart race with apprehension. "And I must say, I am pleasantly surprised by your work ethic and dedication." Zuba's eyes widened in astonishment at the unexpected praise from Mrs. Harper. who came off a little angry as she spoke. Zuba's heart raced as she tried to decipher Mrs. Harper's tone. Was it a compliment or a veiled threat? She decided to take it as a positive sign and continued to serve dinner, making sure everything was perfect. As the family and friends sat down to eat, Zuba noticed Mr. Harper looking at her thoughtfully. "Zuba, would you mind joining us for dinner?" he asked, surprising everyone at the table. Zuba hesitated for a moment, then nodded and took a seat next to their son. The atmosphere at the table was warm and inviting, with Mr. Harper engaging Zuba in conversation about her background and aspirations. Mrs. Harper remained silent but observed the interaction with a keen eye. After Dinner, Mr. Harper excused himself to go to and chat up more guest and to introduce the Family doctor to his new friend Mr Mwanza who had come with his wife and daughter, leaving Zuba alone with Mrs. Harper. The tension in the room was palpable as Mrs. Harper fixed Zuba with a penetrating gaze. "You seem to have made quite an impression on my husband, that he now invites you to dine with our guests” Zuba lowered her face to avoid the angry gaze of her boss. Jacklyn never liked when her husband showed extra favour to anyone or maybe them outshine her in public. It was a conversation she never had with him for fear of him not wanting a jealous wife bit she hated to see him treat other woman better Zuba felt the weight of Mrs. Harper's scrutiny, unsure of how to respond to the unspoken accusation in her words. She had always tried to maintain a professional distance from Mr. Harper, knowing well the consequences of stepping into murky waters. "I'm sorry if my presence at the dinner table has caused any discomfort, Mrs. Harper," Zuba said softly, her eyes downcast. Mrs. Harper sighed, her features softening slightly before she spoke again. "No need to apologize, Zuba. Just make sure it doesnt happen again, he is my husband and not our husband." Zuba nodded, understanding the silent warning behind Mrs. Harper's words. She knew that crossing the line with her employer could lead to unforeseen consequences that she was not willing to risk. As the night wore on, Zuba excused herself from the dinner party and retreated to her small room in the staff quarters. She lay awake, replaying the events of the evening in her mind. The interaction with Mr. Harper, the unexpected invitation to dinner, and the veiled warning from Mrs. Harper all swirled around her thoughts like a whirlwind. She couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that had settled in her stomach. As she lay in bed, the silence of the night was broken by a faint sound coming from outside her window. Curious, Zuba got up and tiptoed to the window, peering out into the darkness. In the distance, she could see a figure moving stealthily through the shadows of the garden. Her heart pounding, Zuba knew she shouldn't be getting involved in whatever was happening outside. But a nagging sense of curiosity pushed her to slip out of her room and follow the shadowy figure into the moonlit garden. As she approached cautiously, Zuba realized it was Mr. Harper pacing back and forth, his expression tense and troubled. Without realizing it, she stepped on a dry twig, causing it to snap loudly under her foot. Mr. Harper whirled around, surprise evident on his face as he saw Zuba standing there in the moonlight. "Zuba, what are you doing out here?" he asked, his voice a mixture of concern and curiosity. "I... I heard a noise and came to investigate," Zuba stammered, her heart racing at being caught sneaking around in the middle of the night. Mr. Harper studied her for a moment before a wry smile tugged at the corners of his lips. "Curiosity got the better of you, huh?" he remarked, his tone lightening. Zuba nodded sheepishly, unsure of how to explain her impulsive decision to follow him into the garden. But before she could say anything, Mr. Harper motioned for her to join him on a nearby bench. They sat in silence for a few moments, the only sound being the gentle rustle of leaves in the night breeze.
