Chapter Eight

William’s POV:
We got into Tracy’s house hoping to hide from the shadow demons as they roamed around the building, Tracy told us to keep quiet as the shadow demons came into the house, We were hiding just right under the table but they didn’t see us,
Suddenly there was a noise outside that alerted them and they left, we got out from under the table as I asked
“Tracy, what the bloody hell are you doing here?”
“I should be asking you that question William but first we gotta go, those things would be back any minute”
Tracy said as we left the building, I imagined another car and it showed up, we got into it and I drove off to an unknown destination, we got to an abandoned hotel and went inside, it was empty so we stayed there to plan our next move as we sat at the lobby,
“What are you two doing here, I thought you couldn’t die?”
Tracy asked and then I said
“Technically we’re only dead temporarily as my powers will soon resurrect us both, we’re here in search of a woman”
I said as I showed Tracy the picture, Tracy looked at it and said
“I don’t know who she is but I can help in your search”
“I still don’t get why you’re still here Tracy I thought you might be in either heaven or hell”
I said and Tracy replied
“Well turns out the afterlife got rules of it’s own, when people die not all are immediately sent to hell or heaven, most of us are just kept here till the time comes but some people still get the chance to reincarnate or be dragged down to hell by the shadow demons”
“Well thank goodness we weren’t caught by those things or we would have been thrown down to hell”
Ada said and then I said
“I’m not worried about them catching us, I’m worried they’ll delay us, even if we’re caught we’ll still resurrect, I just want to make sure we accomplish our mission here”
“So what’s the plan?”
Tracy asked and then I said
“We’re going to Manhattan, that’s where Ada located her with magic”
“I see”
Tracy said and then there was an awkward silence for a while and then I said
“Am so happy I get to see you again”
I hugged Tracy as she said
“Aww I knew you’d miss me”
Tracy then looked at Ada and then said
“I knew you two would get along”
“What?! No”
Me and Ada said in unison and then Tracy just laughed and said
“See”
There was an awkward silence for a while before she said
“I’m so grateful for everything you’ve done for me William, uncovering the truth about my death, giving me a funeral, oh am so grateful to you both”
She hugged me and Ada as we just smiled and then Ada said
“I think it’s time for us to go, we don’t have much time”
“Ok let’s go”
Tracy said as she got into the car, me and Ada just looked at each other and got into the car, Ada told me to imagine we were in Manhattan as I started the car and was driving, suddenly we were in Manhattan
“Manhattan’s is cool I must say”
I said as we drove by the streets, we saw so many dead people roaming around the street, Ada told me to stop at a fashion store, that was where the woman was
I stopped as we all went into the store, we saw some people in the store looking at clothes and then I saw her, the mystery woman we’ve been looking for, I went closer to her but as she saw me, she ran
I went after her as Ada and Tracy followed me, we followed her upstairs until we got to a large hall, it was filled with sewing machines and then the entire building went dark,
The lights came back on and then went off again, then it started blinking,
“I do not like the look of this guys, I think we gotta get outta here”
Tracy said as she was terrified, I mean for someone who was dead she shouldn’t be afraid but then again I was also terrified because I felt a strange presence in the hall, it was the same presence I felt when Ada was performing the ritual that made her have a hungover,
As the lights were blinking, the three of us held each other close with me in the middle, I saw a shadow entity, the same shadow entity that appeared during Ada’s ritual, when Ada saw it she was beyond terrified,
“William, let’s go, let’s get outta here" said Ada
“No way, we just found that woman, I’m not letting this thing get in my way”
I said with confidence but deep down I was scared, I stepped forward as the shadow entity disappeared and suddenly appeared right in front of me, I was looking straight at it as I clenched my fists ready to attack,
Ada was frozen and Tracy was confused and terrified at the same time
“What the hell is that thing?”
Tracy asked but Ada was too scared to talk, I and the shadow entity were having a stare down until the lights completely went off and the entire place was dark for a moment and then,
A pair of white eyes popped up looking right at the three of us and then it opened up it’s mouth ready to consume us,
Tracy screamed as I also screamed, Ada somehow got her composure back and blasted it with darkness and we all ran away, we where able to make it out of the building as we immediately got into the car and I drove off,
“What the bloody hell is that thing?”
I asked and Ada answered
“It’s a soul devourer, a dark entity that consumes souls, shadow demons take you to hell, soul devourers consume your soul until there’s nothing left, even your resurrection powers are useless against it”
“Ok that is really something I would be worried about, I’d prefer the bloody shadow demons to take me than whatever that thing is”
I said and then Tracy asked
“What’s so special about this woman that you had to come to the land of the dead just to find her?”
“I keep seeing her in my flashbacks, I think she’s tied to my origin, I need to find her to know what I really am”
I answered and then Ada asked
“I don’t understand why would a soul devourer be preventing us from getting to that woman?”
I quickly realized something and then I stopped the car,
“I’ve felt that same energy before, when I was resurrecting Luther Martin his soul was about to be consumed I saved him before the soul devourer was able to consume him but it affected me as I bled from the nose, this is the one true power that’ll make me bled, I was affected and I almost lost my life in the process”
I said as Ada and Tracy looked at me in confusion and then Ada asked
“So what’s the connection?”
“This isn’t a real soul devourer it’s a bloody fake”
I said as I turned the car around and was heading back to the fashion store
“What do you mean it’s a fake?”
Ada asked and I answered
“The energy I sense from this one is similar to the one I saved Martin from but this one isn’t pure soul devourer energy it’s a copy”
“How sure are you it’s a fake? You only just found out about soul devourers today”
Tracy said and I replied
“I may not know much but when I sense an energy I can tell it’s differences from other energies even without knowing what that energy is”
I stopped at the store and told Ada and Tracy to stay outside but they decided to come with me but I insisted that Tracy should stay in the car just Incase something happens,
Me and Ada got into the building and started going upstairs, I told Ada to get prepared for anything and if it comes down to it, we’ll use our powers to defend ourselves even if it meant risking the shadow demons finding us,
We got to the hall with the sewing machine as we saw the woman sewing clothes on one of the machines, when she saw us her eyes became black as the soul devourer came out of her and snarled at us,
Ada immediately casted a binding spell as I amplified her energy with mine and we were able to bind the soul devourer in a small circle and then I blasted it as Ada was casting another spell to banish it as a soul devourer can’t be killed but can be trapped or banished,
The soul devourer released a huge wave of energy as me and Ada flew backwards, I got up to attack but the Soul devourer phased through me as I flew backwards and crashed onto the wall, my physical body was affected as I bled from the nose and Ada was affected too because we were still linked,
Ada used a force field to contain the soul devourer as it tried to escape, I blasted the force field with my energy as Ada said an incantation which was ancient and then a symbol appeared on the floor and then we banished the soul devourer as it vanished,
That spell did a number on us as we were both exhausted, the mystery woman was sitting on the floor looking like she’s been through hell, I quickly went closer to her,
“Hey! Mystery woman, look at me”
I said as she raised her head up weakly and then I asked
“Why do you have a soul devourer protecting you?”
“You.. You’re him”
She said as she was freightened and she moved back a bit before giving me a long look and then she realized something and she came closer to me as she stood up and touched me on my checks and said
“My son, you’ve grown, I can’t believe it, I thought I would never see you again”
I quickly pushed her away and said
“What the bloody hell are you yapping about? You must be delusional”
“No I’m not, it’s me, your mother”
I wanted to say something but then I looked at her more closely and I don’t know what it was but I felt like she was telling the truth I felt some sort of connection to her,
I don’t even know what my mother looks like because the church took me in when I was just a baby,
But something about her tells me she’s right but before I could do anything, Tracy came upstairs and told us that the shadow demons were coming and before I could react my body recovered from the poison and I and Ada were brought back to life,
On waking up in the land of the living, the Sharman was stealing my gold watch as we caught her, I decided to give it to her as payment for her services,
I mean she did look after our bodies while we were gone even though she thought she was doing a cleansing ritual,
When she left, I told Ada we needed to get back to the land of the dead, I needed to know if that woman was telling the truth about being my mother, Ada said
“If she’s telling the truth she must know more about your origins, I need to know why that fake soul devourer was with her”
“A lot of mysteries to solve and we’ve not even solved a bloody thing”
“There’s a lot of things we still don’t know and we have to find out what each of them are”
Ada said as I just looked around the sitting room and sat on the couch, I sighed and said
“Well let’s get back there”
“Wait, you said you can tell the difference between two energies right?”
“Yes”
“When you felt the energy of the angels what was it?”
“It was purely divine, mine was different from theirs, mine wasn’t totally divine but still powerful, why did you ask?”
“Just to confirm if you and them share the same energy signature”
“Lets go”
I said as we both went to my bedroom, we both lay on my bed as Ada took the poison and we both died.
