Chapter Ten
When wounds inflicted on me at the Governor’s party had almost healed (I feared some would leave permanent scars) I was summoned by Vanessa to return to her house in the prison grounds. Although Emma felt obliged to obey the Governor I gathered she was not pleased to lose me even for a short time, which was gratifying. Although it had been traumatic at the time, my feelings towards Emma had intensified in the aftermath of the flogging. I now feared her more than ever before, but I also worshipped my goddess with a greater passion. It was as though by flogging me to the point of unconsciousness she had demonstrated her power and my powerlessness in the most dramatic way.
